The Others
Directed: Alejandro Amenábar
Starring: Nicole Kidman
Synopsis: A woman who lives insider her house with her creepy kids that are sensitive to sunlight thinks that her house is haunted.
I enjoyed it. It was pretty spooky and I really thought Nicole Kidman’s eyes were going to bulge out of her head. Jer figured out what was going on about halfway through but he does that a lot. I kept going back and forth about what I thought was going on but enjoyed it the whole time. Creepy house when it was all dark and even creepy at the end when it was all bright from the daylight.

Training Day
Directed: Antoine Fuqua
Starring: Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke
Synopsis: A new cop is assigned to a veteran rogue cop who isn’t afraid to cross the line to get what he wants.
When it came out in the theaters it didn’t look thrilling but I saw it because Denzel won an Oscar for it. I agree that he did a great job. I think Denzel Washington usually plays the same character no matter what movie he is in so it was nice to see him playing something different. He was a charming, bad guy. I thought Ethan Hawke was fine and I guess I can finally quit thinking of him as the slacker kid from Reality Bites.

Weaveworld
by Clive Barker
A Liverpool man stumbles across a magic carpet and unravels another world into his own. This is the first thing I ever read by Barker and it is still one of my favorite books.

In the future, a highly advanced robotic boy thinks he is real and wants his “mother” to love him.
It was interesting in how they made the machine feel love (or at least neediness) but everyone pretty much kept treating him like a machine. Even when he ended up back at his creator he kept talking to him about how amazing he is in terms of science when all David cared about was finding him mom.
I thought Haley Joel Osment did a great job. When he first showed up you could see why they couldn’t help treating him like a machine because he just didn’t act human. Then when he was programmed to love he changed but still only slightly. He still had that crazy laugh going on. I was worried when they brought out Teddy that he would be annoying but I liked Teddy. I wish he was around more.
