Anger Management

Category: 2003, Movies, Reviewsvelveetahead @ 8:54 pm

Adam Sandler is sent to anger management class and Jack Nicholson is his teacher.

I think Jack Nicholson looks like Robert DeNiro in that picture. There's my odd random observation.

Anway, well, I wish Adam Sandler would start making funny movies again. All of this movies have the same theme and they really haven't been as funny as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. This movie was just uhhhhh.

The only part I really liked was the fat cat clothing line. Actually, they could have just shown the fat cat on the screen for about 20 minutes and that would have been great. I would have laughed and laughed and then moved onto something else.

Instead I got to watch this and be bored hoping that the fat cat would make another appearance. I would have rated this movie much lower without the cat. This movie makes it into the C category because of the cat.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Category: 2003, Movies, Reviewsvelveetahead @ 5:19 pm

Sean Connery leads up the next-in-line comic-to-movie. This one is based on Alan Moore's comic. It takes place in Victorian-era England with Allan Quartermain, Dr. Jekyll, Captain Nemo, Tom Sawyer, the Invisible Man, Mina Harker and Dorian Gray.

This movie received horrible reviews and I was expecting a mess. I actually found it to be a lot of fun. There wasn't as much action as other superhero/comic movies lately but I think that's why I liked it.

I think what they did with Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde is what they should have done with The Hulk. Instead of making him completely animated, only parts of him were so the graphics were great. I hardly believed Sean Connery could do any of the jumping around, running, and shooting that he was doing but it was all quite silly anyway.

I did enjoy the literary characters all thrown together into one movie. I thought that was a cool concept, but wasn't sure how it would be pulled off. I thought it was pretty well done.

I'm not sure if I would ever want to watch the movie over and over again, but while I was watching it, I enjoyed it.

The Horned Man

The Horned Man
Author: James Lasdun

After a series of instances that make the main character think he is having lapses in memory, he starts to wonder if someone isn’t messing with him instead. Then murders start happening and he isn’t completely convinced that he didn’t commit them.

I thought this book started off well, but the ending just kinda left you hanging. I mean you could figure out what was going on about halfway through the book, but everything became more and more vague as it went on. I guess it is good when the story doesn’t spell everything out for you and actually make you think about what could have happened in reality and what happened in this guy’s mind, but maybe a little epilogue would have been nice. Maybe I’ve been watching too many movies that explain things to me. :)

The Italian Job

The Italian Job
Director: F. Gary Gary

Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron execute the perfect robbery only to have Edward Norton steal all the loot! Mini Coopers are the answer to getting the money back while looking cute and tiny in the process.

I think this movie started out cool and ended cool and then dragged in the middle. I enjoyed it though. Mark Wahlberg wasn’t in the movie enough to get top billing. I have no idea what his character was really about. Charlize Theron had more of a storyline than he did. Actually Seth Green, The Napster!, had more of a storyline than Mark Wahlberg. I couldn’t understand half of what Handsome Rob was saying, but that’s okay.

I like the heist in the beginning and the big car chase stuff at the end. I like Edward Norton, but I didn’t like him in this movie. His mustache just made him look sleazy, which I guess fit his character but yuck! It was too distracting.

Fun movie though.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are pirates named after the Disneyland attraction.

I thought it was highly amusing. Orlando Bloom was quite hot and Johnny Depp was hilarious. I liked the special effects. I giggled and thought of Aimi whenever I saw the monkey. She must like it how the monkey bit it at the end though. It was a bad, bad monkey.

I loved all the little bits and pieces from the ride. They had the pirates trying to convince the dog with the key ring to get them out. They had signs that are up around the ride. I think I might have rode the ride at Disneyland one too many times to pick up on everything but I thought it was cool.

Darkness Falls

Category: 2003, Movies, Reviewsvelveetahead @ 8:06 pm

A guy returns to his hometown to protect people from the Tooth Fairy.

I love good horror movies or even ones that make me jump a lot, but in order for all of that to happen there has to be something left to the imagination. This movie didn't do any of that. I didn't jump once.

I was yelling at the screen and guessing what was going to happen the entire time, like when she went into the bathroom and got something out of the medicine cabinet. I yelled, "Someone is going to be in the reflection when you close the mirror." Shocker! There was someone there.

The tooth fairy's porcelin mask was too close to the Scream mask so it wasn't really frightening. We kept hoping someone would get chopped in half when the elevator got stuck halfway between two floors and of course dropped after that, but nope. This was no Final Destination movie.

I did giggle when all the random insignificant people didn't last two seconds on the screen, but it wasn't as funny as Final Destination and not as scary as any other horror movie I have ever seen. It wasn't truly horrible to warrant an F grade, but it was boring and not scary.
