The Brothers Grimm

brothers-grimm

The Brothers Grimm pull scams on local towns by killing mythical creatures until they run up against an actual evil that isn’t them.

The movie has Terry Gilliam’s trademark goofiness that is present in his films. Sometimes, it is just there a little bit and sometimes it is the entire movie. This one is the entire movie. That isn’t a bad thing, but if you are expecting something more, you’d be disappointed.

Matt Damon and Heath Ledger are good in the movie. I enjoyed Matt Damon more since he looks like he is genuinely having a good time with it all. Heath Ledger’s character was more serious. He also had a really bad beard. It was just not attractive and a tad distracting. I just wanted him to shave.

There is some funny stuff in the movie and some references to old Monty Python movies with much hatred towards cats and French people. It also has some spooky parts, but nothing overly scary. It is very pretty to look at, but is also a tad all over the place at times. I’d recommend it if you are in the mood for a pretty, amusing, fluffy movie that doesn’t require high levels of thinking, this is the perfect one for a slow Saturday afternoon.
