Transformers
I loved Transformers as a kid, so I was very suspicious of Michael Bay and his wacky live action movie idea from the get-go. However, after seeing some trailers and what not, we went to see it on the 4th of July.
The story breaks from canon, but you aren’t really watching this movie for the plot. Shia LeBeouf is selling his late grandfather’s possessions to buy a new car. His new car turns out to be Bumblebee and his grandfather was an explorer who went to the North Pole and accidentally found Megatron. Megatron had crashed there thousands of years prior and was incapacitated in the ice. The US government extracted Megatron and built the Hoover Dam around him to conceal his presence, along with some life giving cube that Megatron was chasing that also crashed here. Crazy government cover-ups!
Well, fast forward a bit, the other Transformers finally figure out that Megatron and the cube are on Earth and come here to find them and battle it out. There are tons of fights between the good Autobots and evil Decepticons and a Spec Ops team headed up by the guy from the TV show Las Vegas. The movie also has a lot of dorky jokes and doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is good, because it’s about giant tranforming robots from another planet.
In all seriousness, the movie is handled pretty well…though it does seem like a 2.5 hour car commercial which may annoy some people. Also, the camera moves around like crazy during the battles, so it made me a little sick after a while. Other than that, I really have no complaints. The action was awesome, Megan Fox was hawt like teh fire, and nobody was all that annoying. I’m also very happy that they made my favorite Transformer of all-time, Starscream, into a total badass. My favorite scene in the movie was towards the end, the Spec Ops team called in an airstrike and Starscream, who transforms into an F22 fighter jet, goes after the planes as they’re trying to bomb Megatron.
I think it’s somewhere in between 4 and 5 stars, but edging towards the high side of that…I definitely recommend going to see it!

Good stuff! ๐
I never really watched the cartoon when I was a kid. My younger brother did. I did play with his transformers toys though. I really know nothing about any back story or anything else so I was a complete newb watching this movie.
I was confused about why the kid needed to sell all his grandfather’s artifacts in order to get money for his own car, but right after he made his school presentation trying to sell the stuff, he told his teacher he had the money. He just needed three A’s for his dad to agree to get it. He had the money, but he needed money? Maybe gas money? That’s what I get for trying to bring logic to this money, I guess. ๐
After I decided to turn off my brain, it was more entertaining. I enjoyed Bumblebee only communicating through cheesy tunes on the radio. I was sad when boy and hot girl said he was just an old dump of a car, so he turned into a new Camaro. Hello! Old Camaro much better than new one. For shame.
I did enjoy that hot girl knew how to fix cars, even though it made no sense why she was with big jock guy to begin with or how she never noticed main boy in the movie was in her classes. If she was supposed to have half a brain, she might remember the dork trying to sell his grandfather’s stuff that morning in class, but she was just a blank stare. Then later on, she knew how to do tons of stuff and was totally cool. Oh sorry! I’m thinking too much.
Back to the crazy fluff. I loved the psycho bad boombox transformer. He was super spazzy and always yelling when he was destroying things. I also appreciated when the Decepticons started turning random objects into transformers to help them, like the Mountain Dew vending machine, which caused Jer to yell, “Flying Mountain Dew!”
I had a hard time telling some of the transformers apart though. I know one was destroyed right away in a big fight, but couldn’t tell you which one it was since they looked too much alike. I had a hard time telling the big bad guy from another bad one. The fight scenes were a tad confusing, especially when the transformers were going to help boy get to the top of a building so he can do something with a cube. Why didn’t they just fly and plop him on top of the building? Why did they make him run all the way up there? Well, obviously I suck at turning off my brain for these movies. I give up! ๐
Rating: B+
This movie was crazy awesome! I loved it so much! I didn’t think about anything except how cool it was and how awesome the Transformers are! I cheered when Optimus Prime came on the screen – I was being very crazy! I blame the Wild Cherry Pepsi I was drinking.
I also liked the little boom box Decepticon, he was so funny with his little mutterings.
I was very sad when Jazz the Pontiac Solstice was dead, cuz that is the car I want to buy, but now I’m not sure since it is not good as a fighting robot, and I might need that.
I also thought that Sam’s parents were pretty funny.
I give it 5 stars!
I really enjoyed the movie. It was fun. Now every time I see a Solstice on the road I say “Look it’s Jazz!” I liked the cheesyness – funny that Jim said it was a car comercial because all Darren kept saying was that it was a big GM comercial.
