Viva Dies, Amazing Race Lives!

Category: News,TVvelveetahead @ 9:44 pm

Even though critics suspected that CBS held off premiering Viva Laughlin for so long so it would not be the first canceled show of the season, it still gets the honor for the quickest canceled show of the fall season. Sure Nashville and CW Nation are already goners, but Viva Laughlin premiered just last Thursday and when its second episode ran this past Sunday, it was canceled Monday morning. It was also the first scripted show to get canned. That counts for something, right? Why did it take two episodes?

Good news though is that the next season of Amazing Race is scheduled to start November 4th in its place at 8/7c. Yeah! This season of Amazing Race will have teams race to new countries of Ireland, Lithuania and Croatia. How have they not been to Ireland yet? I can’t wait!

Movies Opening Oct 19

Category: 2007,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 10:38 pm

Nationwide Releases

Gone Baby Gone
Directed: Ben Affleck
Starring: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan
Trailer

Synopsis: Based on novel by the author of Mystic River, two private detectives try to find a missing little girl.

My Take: Looks very similar in setting to Mystic River, even though the story is different. Casey Affleck usually bugs me, but he didn’t look annoying in this movie at all. I’d actually want to see it.

RT Score: 92%
RT Consensus: Ben Affleck proves his directing credentials in this gripping dramatic thriller, drawing strong performances from the excellent cast and bringing working-class Boston to the screen.

Seven

Seven

Directed: David Fincher
Starring: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey

A serial killer is killing people that he believes have committed the seven deadly sins in very appropriate ways.

I saw this movie in the theaters in the first row. I just remembered it being dark, and it was very gross when you are that close to the screen, especially for the gluttony guy. A lot of it was lost on me though since my view was distorted. Also, this was back in the day when there wasn’t stadium seating in movie theaters and the first row was really right in front of the huge screen. I’m not sure what gave me the urge to watch the movie again, but something did so I added it to Netflix and put it at the top of my queue.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Category: 2007,Movies,Reviewsvelveetahead @ 9:55 pm

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters
Directed: Matt Maiellero, Dave Willis
Starring: Matt Maiellero, Dave Willis

Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad have some kind of adventure with three new backgrounds, five new characters and a flaming chicken.

I love the show and its nonsense. I love all the bad guys that always go after Flylock, Master Shake and Meatwad. I love that Master Shake is an arrogant bastard. I love that I can only understand Meatwad half the time. I love it when Dr. Weird starts sentences with “Gentlemen, behold!” I love it when Ignigknokt and Err sound all proper and do pixelated stuff. I even enjoy it when the robot from the future talks about things from many, many years ago.

With all this love, this movie made me sad. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t very funny either. There were funny bits, but I compare it to a halfway decent episode. One that was amusing to watch once, but would not hold up to repeat viewings. That disappointed me. What it did do was made me want to watch my favorite episodes of the show, so maybe it was a ruse to get me to watch the show more!

Desperate Housewives: Secrets Almost Spilled

Category: Recaps,TVvelveetahead @ 9:27 pm

Desperate Housewives
The Game

I half believed that Katherine actually told her secret, but wondered if she would give it up that easily. Turns out she didn’t. The aunt is moving into the secret room next week, so I’m wondering if more will sneak out when she is there. We also learned that Mr. Mayfair was a bit of a hussy in Chicago. Now he can’t even talk to other women without Katherine glaring at him. She seems to have a bit to be concerned about since he was ogling over whoever was talking to him. I loved Gabby cleaning things up and Katherine’s reaction to it.
