TAR: Mega Bitches

Amazing Race
We’ve Really Burned Bridges, for Sure

The thing I dread the most about the show happened–the first 20 minutes of the episode was spent watching teams trying to get flights. Boring! The teams found out that they needed to leave Africa and go to Vilnius, Lithuania. There was much fighting within teams, against teams, and against ticket agents that didn’t speak much English. After all the hassles, everyone got on flights that all arrived around the same time, so it didn’t matter. It isn’t even worth recapping. Jennifer did spend a good amount of time fretting over her and Shana’s decision to U-Turn another team. Shana pretty much told her to shut up about it since she didn’t want to hear it.

When the teams arrived in Lithuania, they had to find St. Ann’s Church for their next clue. Nate and Jen got in their marked car first, but lacked navigational skills, so they were soon lost. The siblings and the blondes couldn’t find the marked cars at all. Nick/Don and TK/Rachel got into their cars and headed off to the church. Ron/Christina arrived on the last plane, but paid a taxi to show them the way to the church so they got there before a lot of other teams, like Nate/Jen and the blondes that were very lost driving around. The blondes almost got creamed by a bus when they thought they going the wrong way and started backing up into oncoming traffic. Scary! Nate and Jen were so frustrated with their bad navigation that they thought it would be easier if they parked the car in a random spot and started walking. They spent a lot of time walking.

Roadblock – Making the Deliveries

Nick/Don arrived at the church first and Nick decided he had the best listening skills, so he performed the task. He had to find a local Lithuanian woman who would give him a package, a location and a person to give the package. That person would take the package, give him another delivery and he would drop it off at one of four different locations for the next clue.

The area of town they were in, the Old Quarter, was very confusing so it was easy to get lost. And boy did Nick get lost! He found the Vilnius University Courtyard pretty quickly, but when he had to find a hair salon for the second part of the road block, he had no luck. He couldn’t find it himself and no one he asked knew where it was located.

While Nick searched, the goths showed up and Kynt took the task. He quickly found the courtyard and was sent to Gabi Cafe. He found that right away, and headed back to Vyxsin with the clue for their next destination. Nick still looked around when TK and Rachel showed up. TK took the task and found a local that knew where the courtyard and his next clue were located. Ron and Christina were next and Ron took the task. He ran into a hotel to get directions to his clues. TK and Ron finished the task, while Nick was still as lost as can be. The siblings showed up and Hendekea got the same clues as Nick. She found someone that knew were the hair salon was, so she finished fairly quickly. No such luck for Nick.

Nate and Jen finally ran their way to the roadblock and finished it. Don knew it was bad for him and Nick when the extremely lost blondes showed up. I had no idea how much time had passed but Don said that Nick had been searching for almost two hours. Wow! Nick finally found someone that knew where the hair salon was located! Shana found her second location around the same time and they both ran back to their teammates. While the blondes were asking directions to the next location, Nick and Don took the chance to just take off to get a bit of a lead on them and not be in last place.

Once all the teams were done, the clue told them to drive to the town of Rumsiskes and find Lietuvos Liaudies Buities Muziejus, which was an outdoor museum taken over by gnomes! The teams had to look all over the place to find the Travelocity gnome out of 100 wacky lawn gnomes. They had to keep their gnome with them to the pit stop. The next clue sent teams to a detour.

Detour – Stilts

The detour choices were Count Down or Step Up. In Count Down, teams had to count a marked section of fence at a Mid-Summer’s Festival. Once they were done counting, they had to see if they counted right from a villager. In Step Up, the teams had to get on stilts and walk a certain distance for their next clue. If they fell off, they had to start over.

Step Up
Teams that chose this task:

Goths
Hippies
Ron/Christina
Siblings
Nate/Jen

The goths ran right over to the stilts and walked through all the people in crazy costumes. They loved everyone and felt right at home. They had difficulty with the task and had to try a few times. Rachel really wanted to walk on stilts so they did the task too. She struggled while TK seemed to breeze right through. Ron and Christina thought it would be faster, even though I don’t know why they would try something physical with his hernia. The goths gave up after falling down tons, so they ran over to count the fence.

TK and Rachel were the first to finish of any team, especially since the goths were in the middle of counting the fence. They opened up their clue that said they had to get to find the Aukstaitija Windmill on foot to find the next pit stop.

Christina made it over the finish line on the stilts and kept cheering her dad on to try again and again. He finally made it, even though it looked like his feet were bleeding. Why was he doing it barefoot? Azara and Hendekea also did the stilts, but didn’t have too much trouble. They did lose their lead in this leg of the race though. When Nate and Jen switched to the stilts, they finished pretty quickly. Too bad for them that they didn’t choose it in the first place. Not too bad for me though since their fight during the other detour was hilarious to watch.

Count Down
Teams that chose this task:

Goths
Nate/Jen
Blondes
Nick/Don

Counting the posts wasn’t as easy as it sounded since the crazy costume people were singing and dancing and trying to interrupt any counting. The goths finally finished counting 717 posts right after TK and Rachel were opening up their clue from finishing the stilts.

The goths were the only pleasant team to complete this task. Nate and Jen decided to count since Jen said there was no way they could do the stilts. Jen would count while Nate followed behind her. She would get frustrated by anything, like air, and yell at the festival people that were there to distract her. Then she would yell at Nate and say he could count too. This was probably a good idea, since she at one point counted, “87, 88, 89, 100…” When he would count, she would yell at him for counting out loud, even though she was doing the same thing. Then when he was counting, she would ask him a question and he’d lose his place. He called her a “bitch”, which set her off. I just wanted her to shut up myself. They decided to switch to the stilts since counting was hard.

The other joyful team was the blondes. Shana also caught the bitchiness bug. She was yelling at Jennifer non-stop and was so fed up with the counting that she told Jennifer to count. If Jennifer got the count wrong, it was “all on her.” Okay! Wacko. Of course, Jennifer’s number was wrong because she was the only one counting while Shana yelled about there being “no strategy” to their counting. Strategy to counting? Uh, 1, 2, 3…

I lied about the only pleasant team on the task being the goths. Nick and Don also picked the counting detour. Nick was counting calmly, even with the distractions of the festival people and the blondes shrieking. Don was reading the rules again and they realized that Nick had counted some posts that weren’t supposed to be counted. He calmly finished counting, subtracted what needed to be subtracted and turned in his number. He had the correct number and finished before the blondes finally reached the correct number.

Pit Stop

TK and Rachel were the first to finish of any team, especially since the goths were in the middle of counting the fence. They opened up their clue that said they had to get to find the Aukstaitija Windmill on foot to find the next pit stop. They were running there when the goths started running towards the pit stop too, but the hippies made it first. They were shocked they were first, saying that at some points in the leg, they were the only team around, so they had no idea where they were in the pack of people.

Ron and Christina came in third place. Christina was very proud of her dad and his changing attitude towards her and the race. Azaria and Hendekea came in fourth place followed by Nate and Jen. Nick and Don made it in not too far ahead of the blondes, but they knew that they had to work hard to get out of the last place after the crazy roadblock delayed them so much.

The blondes came in last place and hoped for a non-elimination round, but it was not meant to be. I felt bad for Jennifer, but I did not miss Shana leaving. I was hoping she would take Jen from Nate and Jen. Maybe Jen and Jennifer can switch!
