Other Boleyn Girl
Directed: Edward Shearmurk
Starring: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana
Trailer
Synopsis: The two Boleyn sisters that were mistresses of Henry VIII, the king of England.
My Take: Power, lust, betrayal, loyalty, sex and fancy costumes. Looks good to me!
RT Score: 38%
RT Consensus: Though it features some extravagant and entertaining moments, The Other Boleyn Girl feels more like a soap opera than historical drama.

Quarterlife
Channel: NBC
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: Tue, Feb 26 (regular time Sunday 9/8c starting Mar 2)
Starring: David Walton, Maite Schwartz, Bitsie Tulloch, Kevin Christy, Scott Michael Foster, Michelle Lombardo
Trailer
Synopsis: It started out as webisodes only, but it is moving to television due to the writer’s strike. All of these episodes can be found online already. It is about six 25-year-old friends who try to figure out what to do with their lives while making blog video diaries.
My Take: The concept alone sounds stupid, but added to the that was they hired stupid lonelygirl15. No one should hire her as an actress. It only encourages other stupid people.

Lost
Eggtown
Did I miss that there was a pregnancy scare between Kate and Sawyer? I never rewatch anything so I just go off of memory, but I don’t remember anything about that. I thought I heard wrong the first time when Sawyer said that Kate was mad about the pregnancy thing. Then they mentioned it again after it became clear that they didn’t sleep together after she spent the night in Sawyer’s bed. I thought maybe she was pregnant, but just wasn’t telling Sawyer since he obviously didn’t want one. A little bit before that, Jer and I guessed that she might have taken Claire’s kid off the island as her own. Then towards the end of the episode, I thought again that it might have been Sawyer’s kid since Jack wanted to get together with Kate, but not be part of the kid’s life. At the very end, we learn that it is Claire’s son. Does Jack think the boy is Sawyer’s kid or does he not want to have anything to do with Claire’s kid? What happened to Claire? Did she die on the island or did she not get a chance to make it off and either handed Aaron to Kate who was leaving or Kate stole him? So many questions!

Juno
Directed: Jason Reitman
Starring: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, J.K. Simmons
Dear Juno,
I hope that Coni will still see you, even after Hard Candy made her not like Ellen Page.
You have a lot of great acting - I really liked Juno’s parents in particular. I found parts of you very funny and would lol and other parts were touching but I didn’t cry, I think my mom did though, so good work making mom cry!
Your story is very true to life in how people deal with issues that come up in their lives. Jason Bateman’s character was probably the least sympathetic but even he was entertaining to watch, so good work in casting!
The soundtrack was a big part of your tone and I really enjoyed all the silly lyric songs. I think you would be a good movie to create mix tapes with!
Even though I didn’t have a snack while I watched you, you are still awesome.
*hugs*
Amy

27 Dresses
Directed: Anne Fletcher
Starring: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Akerman, Edward Burns, Melora Hardin, Judy Greer
This is my review of the movie 27 Dresses!
I went to see 27 Dresses with my dad and grandma because we love chick flicks! Just kidding, it was starting at a good time and no one wanted to wait for another movie so voila!
While the plot and outcome are predictable, there are a lot of cute scenes and moments that keep the movie moving along and entertaining. The part where you finally see all of the dresses is really funny. The relationships between the characters felt real, as if they had really known each other for a while - I guess that is called good acting! All the wedding stuff was neat too, to see all the dresses and cakes and flowers. It was kinda like a bridal magazine brought to life! I don’t know that you need to run out and see this in the theatre, but if you’re in the mood for a light hearted romantic comedy, this will do very well.

Hard Candy
Directed: David Slade
Starring: Ellen Page, Patrick Wilson
A mature teenage girl decides to go after a suspected pedophile that she met in an Internet chat room.
I heard about a shocking scene that was in this movie, but maybe it is only shocking to guys. Leading up to that scene, there is nothing suspenseful about this supposed thriller. The director loves to shove the camera right up in the actors’ faces, which makes the entire movie claustrophobic. What it mostly made me do is really dislike the lead character when I would normally be on the side of anyone going after pedophiles. It didn’t make me like the guy any more, but I didn’t like her. She just bugged me. I disliked the lead character so much in this movie, that it made me not want to see Juno, which stars Ellen Page and I have really wanted to see that since I first saw the trailer. Now that’s a bad thing!

The Descent
Directed: Neil Marshall
Starring: Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Jackson Mendoza, Alex Reid, Saskia Mulder, MyAnna Buring, Nora-Jane Noone
A group of women go spelunking, get caved in, and while trying to find another exit find something else much more horrible.
I’m not a big fan of horror movies as I once was, but I don’t know if that is because I have outgrown them or I just like smart horror movies. This one seemed to be along the latter. It isn’t totally brilliant, but it doesn’t fall into the pitfalls of what one might think of a horror movie involving just women. The stereotypical all-woman movie would involve the women being flighty, wearing tight outfits, and not being able to take care of themselves, but these women have no issues doing whatever they want. They are all extreme adventure junkies that meet up about once a year for a different activity. The activity this time is caving. Some women in the group of six think that it sounds boring and want something more exciting, but what they find in the Appalachian mountains is far from boring. I know I was scared when I found out they were in the Appalachian mountains, and that was even before they found dueling banjos playing on the radio while switching through stations.

Just last week it looked like Women’s Murder Club might not be canceled just yet. There was no news after the writer’s strike ended. Then the rumors about the set being torn down started. After that, they were told to stop since there might an additional three episodes if a new show runner is found. What happened to the old show runner? I don’t know! I liked Angie Harmon so I would like this show to continue. I wouldn’t mind if they lost crazy blonde lady who I still see as the killer on one of the 24 seasons.

Be Kind Rewind
Directed: Michel Gondry
Starring: Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover
Trailer
Synopsis: Two video store guys have all their VHS tapes erased, but instead of buying new videos (or possibly upgrading to DVD), they make their own versions of the movies, hoping no one would notice.
My Take: I have no idea why anyone would watch VHS tapes still, but it looks hilarious.
RT Score: 69%
RT Consensus: Slighter and less disciplined than Gondry’s previous mind-benders.

Notes on a Scandal
Directed: Richard Eyre
Starring: Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Andrew Simpson, Philip Davis, Michael Maloney, Juno Temple, Max Lewis, Julia McKenzie
Cate Blanchett is an art teacher that starts an affair with a student. Judi Dench is an older teacher at the same school that starts a friendship with her, and enjoys the power she has over her about her secret.
Oh, Judi Dench is evil! The movie is really a character-study on her character and what makes her tick. She is a woman that loves other women, but doesn’t fully confess that to herself. She grew up in an era where that was not acceptable, and even though in modern times, others wouldn’t bat an eye, she is still living as if she was in the time where it wouldn’t be looked upon kindly. On top of that that, she is a very obsessive personality. She doesn’t just befriend women, but wants to consume them to an almost stalkerish quality. She doesn’t stalk in the traditional sense, but uses whatever power she has over women to make them be available at her beck and call. Judi Dench does a fabulous job making you despise and feel sorry for this woman at the same time.
