Hard Candy
A mature teenage girl decides to go after a suspected pedophile that she met in an Internet chat room.
I heard about a shocking scene that was in this movie, but maybe it is only shocking to guys. Leading up to that scene, there is nothing suspenseful about this supposed thriller. The director loves to shove the camera right up in the actors’ faces, which makes the entire movie claustrophobic. What it mostly made me do is really dislike the lead character when I would normally be on the side of anyone going after pedophiles. It didn’t make me like the guy any more, but I didn’t like her. She just bugged me. I disliked the lead character so much in this movie, that it made me not want to see Juno, which stars Ellen Page and I have really wanted to see that since I first saw the trailer. Now that’s a bad thing!
Also, just stating that someone is a pedophile didn’t really make it believable to me. What he was doing with the girl was slightly inappropriate, but he didn’t even try anything before she goes all psycho on him. I think that would have made the “shocking” scene a lot more satisfying. It mostly was just dull and she was lying about so many other things, it made me wonder if what she said was going on, or had happened, really did happen. As for the ending, it was completely stupid and not believable at all.

Hey I can’t make you like a movie, but i think you’re dead wrong on this one. Ellen Page did an excellent job acting in this one, possibly even a better job than in Juno. You’re not supposed to like the Hayley, she’s the psycho killer, and it doesn’t just say he’s a pedophile, it suggests it, and makes you think of whether or not he really is, as you have no proof. By the end of the film he has hung himself, because he doesn’t want anyone to find out that he is a pedophile. You’re obviously the kind of person who does not delight in subtely, you’d probably rather go see SAW and actually see someone get there dick chopped off.
Wow! Haha! My first flamer. I’m surprised it took so long. 😉
There isn’t anything subtle about the movie. She finds the pictures in the safe, but the audience never sees them. The entire movie tries so hard to be shocking when it really made me roll my eyes.
I have no idea where the comparison to Saw comes from besides they both contain violence. They really don’t have anything in common. I didn’t like Saw either. You can even read the review! I wonder what that says about me.
Bang up job on ruining the ending though for anyone that might want to see it. They probably won’t now, even though you presented a fabulous case on how I’m stupid and you are awesome. Go fight win!
