Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Directed: Steven Spielberg
Starring: Harrison Ford, Ray Winstone, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen
The third sequel in the series almost twenty years after the last one where they smartly have Indiana Jones age about twenty years in the process too.
I was a tad spoiled rewatching the old Indiana Jones movies the weekend before watching this movie, but it reminded me how fun the movies were, even when they were being silly. This movie is beyond silly. I believe it started with the monkeys in the jungle, got a little bit goofier with the huge killer ants, and completely lost it with the alien angle. I think the alien angle would have been fine, if it had been suggested, but not verified. I was very ready for the movie to end when it got to that point.
Before the end though, there were many things that felt forced. The way that Indiana came across Marion Ravenwood and acted like they had never been apart seemed slightly off. When she just blurted out about her son being his son, it was no surprise to anyone watching I am guessing, but he did not even seem to care that he hadn’t been told he was a father. He just took the information with a nod of the head and moved on. When Marion, Mud, and the other guy said they weren’t going to follow Indiana, he said he was going without them. They thought about it for half a second and then followed him. Why? Just because!
Overall, I thought Harrison Ford didn’t seem like he cared if he was there or not. He didn’t seem like he was having much fun. Everything seemed rushed and just weird. Maybe I was expecting too much. The first three movies weren’t masterpieces, but they seemed to be more fun to watch.
Rating: C+
I feel that I failed you all in my movie selection. I had to see this though because even though the plot was lacking, it was still Harrison Ford in a sweet hat and for that reason everyone who hasn’t seen it yet should rent it.
I just made it to the bottom of the Top Commenters list. W00t! I’m passing keiran next.
We’ll all fail in our movie selections at one point. I really thought this one was going to be better so it isn’t your fault. We didn’t know it would be so goofy!
