Sarah Connor Chronicles: Attack Urinals

Category: Recaps,TVvelveetahead @ 4:51 pm

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
Samson & Delilah

The episode picks up where the season finale ended with Cameron sitting in a Jeep when it explodes. Of course, it doesn’t kill her. It does damage her computer chip so the next time she sees John Connor she has the mission to terminate him. oops! They have to deal with that right after dealing with Sarkissian trying to kill them. He was looking for a hard drive that they stole that could lead them to the Turk, the machine that would eventually become the terminator robots. It appears that Sarah Connor managed to kill Sarkissian in front of her son just before Cameron showed up to kill John. There was much fretting later on about killing someone in front of John, which confused me since he’s been around death tons already. They managed to jump out the window and Cameron was knocked off her feet from an explosion she started when beating up a random bad guy coming into the house.

True Blood

Category: Shows,TVvelveetahead @ 2:33 pm

True Blood

Channel: HBO
Date/Time: Sunday, 9/8c
Starring: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Nelson Ellis
Trailer

Synopsis: Scientists have found a blood synthetic that vampires can use so humans are safe and vampires can live out in the open. Not everyone buys that they won’t be attacked though, especially religious folks. A waitress, who has her own special gift of hearing everyone’s thoughts, is thrilled by a vampire that comes into her diner since his thoughts are actually closed off to her. She finds his mysteriousness sexy.

True Blood lives up to the pay channel it airs with an abundance of sex, but not a lot of blood. There is a lot of lust in the air though. I think the best scene was where Sookie, the mind reading waitress, talks with the new vampire in town, Bill, for the second time in her diner. Everyone in the entire diner is staring at them talking since not many of them are keen on a vampire in the restaurant. They don’t really notice since they are so intent on each other. She is thrilled that she can’t hear his thoughts and he looks like he is ready to devour her. The sexual tension is palpable.  I loved it!

Movies Opening September 12

Category: 2008,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 7:42 pm

This week, we have a Certified Fresh release with the latest Coen brothers movie. Tyler Perry hates critics, so he doesn’t let his movies be screened for them. That doesn’t seem to stop people from seeing them though. I don’t think that it looks like Robert De Niro in the poster for Righteous Kill. It almost looks like it is a video game. Finally, The Women remake has been in the works for about 15 years and it looks like it should have stayed that way.

Nationwide Releases

Burn After Reading
Directed: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Starring: George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt, Tilda Winton
Trailer

Synopsis: Dumb gym employees find an ex-CIA’s memoirs and try to blackmail him.

My Take: It doesn’t look like the best Coen brothers movie, but it still looks pretty funny and a substandard Coen brothers movie is still damn entertaining.

RT Score: 78%
RT Consensus: With Burn After Reading, the Coen Brothers have crafted another clever comedy/thriller with an outlandish plot and memorable characters.

Sex and the City

Category: 2008,Movies,Reviewsvelveetahead @ 8:41 am

Sex and the City: The Movie
Directed: Michael Patrick King
Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Jennifer Hudson
Trailer

Synopsis: Four years after the series ended, the movie picks up four years later with Carrie engaged to Big, Samantha still in love with Smith, Charlotte finally pregnant and Miranda still living in Brooklyn with Steve.

The series had ups and downs, but I did always buy the direction the various characters went in, even if they were stupid mistakes. It fit their characters and usually ended up well, especially by the end of the series. The movie is soley for fans because they would be the only ones that would put up with the one long downer of a middle of the movie.  It was pretty much a retread of what had happened in the series many times before. I would still get sad when the girls were sad and happy when they were happy, but I wasn’t thrilled by the contrived plot. The main plot I’m discussing would be Carrie’s storyline. The rest of it actually felt more true to life and closer to what happened in the series.

Death Race

Category: 2008,Movies,Reviewsvelveetahead @ 11:13 am

Death Race
Directed: Paul W.S. Anderson
Starring: Jason Statham, Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane
Trailer

Synopsis: In order to go even more extreme with reality television, there is a racing competition inside a jail with the prisoners.

While the movie was over the top, predictable, and filled with bad acting, it was still a fun time. A lot of what saved the movie was Jason Statham. He can actually act and looks sexy whether he’s dirty or clean or even wearing clothes. I preferred the scenes where he was wearing less clothing.

TV: Week of September 7

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:18 pm

This week has a lot more good shows debuting compared to last week. There is a lot to recommend and hard to pick one as the pick of the week since I’ve seen Fringe and it is very good, but I’m going with True Blood as the pick since it is produced by Alan Ball and looks like HBO is finally getting back to its classic good shows after a run of pretty lames ones last year.

Pick of the Week

True Blood
Channel: HBO
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: Sunday, Sep 7

My Take: I love Alan Ball. I loved Six Feet Under and I love vampires, so this seems like a natural show for me to watch.

Movies Opening September 5

Category: 2008,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 12:19 pm

I guess this is the death week between summer being over and the fancy Oscar-worthy fall movies come out. After having give movies come out last week, only one came out this week. They couldn’t find anything better though?

Nationwide Releases

Bangkok Dangerous
Directed: Oxide Pang Chun, Danny Pang
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Chakrit Yamnarm, Charlie Yeung
Trailer

Synopsis: Greasy-haired assassin rethinks his job when he is hired to kill an actual nice guy that helps poor people.

My Take: Um, I’m going to ignore this movie came out.

RT Score: 8%
RT Consensus: With murky cinematography, a meandering pace, a dull storyline, and rather wooden performances, The Pang Brothers’ Hollywood remake of Bangkok Dangerous is unsuccessful.

Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Category: Listening,Music,Random Songsvelveetahead @ 10:30 pm

I have some current favorite songs, but there aren’t any real videos that I can find on YouTube, so I’ll wait to post those. I did find one though, so I thought I’d share. Kings of Leon’s new album comes out September 23rd and this is the first single, “Sex on Fire”.

TV: Week of September 1st

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:17 pm

Even though the official premiere week isn’t until the fourth week in September, FOX and CW are coming on strong by premiering their shows this week and next. I guess summer is over!

Willing To Try

Bones
Channel: FOX
Time: 8/7c
Premieres: Wed, Sep 3(two-hour premiere)
Starring: Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin, Eric Millegan, T.J. Thyne, Tamara Taylor, John Francis Daley
Trailer

Synopsis: A forensic anthropologist works with an FBI Special Agent on cases where they fight and bicker and flirt with one another. The season premiere takes place in London and was actually filmed there too.

My Take: The show annoyed me during the pilot. I saw no chemistry between the two leads, even though I love David Boreanaz. It was just trying too hard. I have never seen an episode since, but I have seen some trailers where the chemistry is improved and I enjoyed laughing at the two interact with one another. I’m willing to give it another shot. Also, I’m a sucker for any show, even just an episode, being shot in London.
