TAR: Fishy Fish Fish

Amazing Race
Do It Like a Madman

Last week I wondered how the blondes got so far behind, which ultimately led to their elimination. I found some video footage that didn’t make the show of them being stuck at a gas station forever not able to get their automatic vehicle started. When they finally asked for some help, the gas station attendant showed them that they weren’t in park. They had been sitting there forever with the car manual out trying to figure out why the car was broken. Oh boy.

The order the teams left the pit stop:

  • Ken & Tina (Team S&M) – 6:03 am
  • Terence & Sarah (Team Emo) – 8:19 am
  • Kelly & Christy (divorced ladies) – 9:32 am
  • Toni & Dallas (mom/son) – 10:15 am
  • Nick & Starr (siblings) – 11:34 am
  • Andrew & Dan (frat guys) – 12:44 pm
  • Aja & Ty (long-distance dating) – 3:04 pm

Clue: Fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia and find a road side gas pumping station for their next clue.

Airport Fun Times

Team S&M were arriving at the airport when Team Emo were still driving to the airport. Team S&M were getting a flight into Singapore and then into Siem Reap, but it didn’t leave until 12:20 pm. Tina was worried that Team Emo would catch up, but then Mr. Emo got pulled over for speeding! He was doing 117 km when it was only 100 km. The way Ms. Emo handled it after he’s back on the road is by saying she thought he was always a slow driver. Nice! His reaction was to call her an ass. Oh, if only she said that to him when he makes any of his comments. They were still driving to the airport when Toni & Dallas left the pit stop where once again Dallas didn’t know where Cambodia was located. Last episode, he didn’t know where New Zealand was located. Someone get this boy a globe!

Team Emo arrived at the airport and found the same flight as Team S&M, but the ticket counter lady said that the bookings probably already closed for the day on that flight. They probably could have made it if Mr. Emo didn’t get pulled over! The siblings were leaving the pit stop at this time and Starr’s “broken arm” from last episode seemed just fine. She had a bandage over her arm, but was moving it around just fine. One ticket counter lady called to see if the flight for Team Emo had closed and it had not. They had to hurry to get there, which meant they both took off running. Mr. Emo had to complain that Sarah started running faster than him, once again. Cry, cry, whine, whine. They made it on the flight and Team S&M were not happy to see them.

The frat boys left the pit stop after the first flight took off. The teams were pretty spread apart leaving the pit stop. Andrew wondered where Cambodia was located. Dan told him it was in Asia and asked why he didn’t know that. Andrew said he didn’t go to fancy private school like Dan. Yes, maps are only available in private schools. The divorced ladies arrived and got the next flight out leaving at 4:55 pm. The mom/son team arrived soon after and were getting tickets the same time as the divorced ladies. The divorced ladies were giggling to themselves saying that Dallas looked like Teen Wolf with his hair. His hair is interesting. Dallas didn’t hear them, but did hear the giggling and knew it was at them for some reason. He was annoyed.

The siblings were getting their tickets when the frat boys and Aja & Ty were still driving to the airport. Dan did not want to be fighting for last place with Aja & Ty. Ty was hoping they could catch up to the frat guys and he could see the look on Dan’s face. The siblings got on the same flight as the divorced ladies and mom/son. The frat boys arrived after they were boarding. The booking ladies called to check to see if the booking was closed and said there was no chance to get on the flight. The frat boys were crushed since they knew they would not catch up to the other teams and Aja & Ty would catch up to them. The boys ran to the counter of the airline flying to Singapore to see what they would say. They were accepted so they got on the same flight.  Aja & Ty arrived and got on another flight, but no idea how much later it left compared to the other teams. While at the Singapore airport, Team S&M and Emo had all the other teams except Aja & Ty catch up to them. Team S&M were very upset.

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The siblings were the first ones into a cab and off towards the gas station. Mom/son were next, but when they were saying where they needed to go, their driver asked them if they wanted a hotel. They said no and said the location again. Uh-oh! The frat boys were lost trying to find a taxi outside the airport. The divorced ladies were next to leave, followed by Team Emo, Team S&M and finally the frat boys. Mom/son noticed that the siblings went off to a different direction and then realized their cab driver had taken them to some random hotel. They told him again where they needed to go and were off. The divorced ladies’ cab driver took them to a random gas station, but not the one they needed. The siblings actually went to the correct place.

Gas Station

Clue: The teams had to choose a truck and then fill the gas tank with 25 liters of diesel fuel using a pumping method to fill a container and releasing the fuel into the truck through a tube.

The siblings figured out the pump thing super fast and were finished with it while the divorced ladies were still figuring out that the gas station they were brought to wasn’t the one they were looking for. The siblings received the next clue:

Clue: Teams had to get into the bed of the truck they just filled up with gas and the driver would take them to Siem Reap Harbor. From there, they would take a boat to a floating restaurant, Kho Andeth

While the siblings were driving away, mom/son showed up to the gas station and started filling up.  Team Emo, Team S&M and frat boys all showed up at the same time to the gas station. The divorced ladies must have still been lost or was it karma for laughing at Teen Wolf’s hair? All the teams were cruising through it, except the frat boys. Nothing was coming into the container, no matter how many times Andrew turned the crank. They were sure they were missing something. Team S&M were upset when mom/son were done before them, but mom/son arrived before Team S&M so it made sense! Mom/son were in the back of the truck and off. Andrew was still slowly cranking with nothing coming out. Dan told him to pump faster and Andrew said it had nothing to do with it, yet he didn’t try it. The divorced ladies finally showed up.

The frat guys started walking around to see how other teams were doing it. Ken clarified to Andrew there was no trick to it. It was just turning the crank. The divorced ladies started and they were cruising along while Andrew was watching them trying to figure out how it worked. Team S&M finished third and took off in the truck. Team Emo were right behind them.  Aja & Ty finally got off their plane and were headed to the gas station. The divorced ladies finished and took off. The frat boys still hadn’t figured out the gas thing. Will Aja & Ty catch up? Dan finally took over, cranked faster than Andrew, and it worked. Why did it take them so long to try it faster?

While heading to the harbor Team Emo passed Team S&M and mom/son. Then Team S&M passed mom/son. Frat boys finally finished the gas task and took off just before Aja & Ty arrived. The siblings were driving still. Starr was worried that they were going in the wrong direction so she made their driver stop so she could ask directions. No one knew where they were going. Nick started yelling at Starr to get back in while other teams were passing them. Way to lose the lead! They were behind Team Emo, Team S&M and mom/son since they stopped.

At the harbor, all four teams climbed into their boats. Tina was freaking out that someone was going to pass them if they didn’t get going faster. I don’t think the boats went that fast. The siblings passed Team S&M. Mom/son passed Team S&M too. Maybe their boat was just slower than everyone else’s boat. Aja & Ty finished up the gas task and were headed to the harbor. The divorced ladies were on their boat headed to the next clue with the frat boys not too far behind them.

Team Emo were about to be the first team to arrive at Kho Andeth (they could see it), but then their boat just died. It started smoking and stopped. Terence asked for a stick so he could start pushing their boat closer while the siblings, mom/son and Team S&M passed. Sara cheered Terence on for rowing the boat. Aja & Ty were still driving to the boats. The siblings were the first to arrive at Koh Andeth and get the next clue, which was a detour.

Village Life or Village Work

Detour: The teams had to experience life in a village built entirely on water. In Village Life, the teams used their boat to pick up three items: a set of teeth from the dentist, a doll from the tailor, and a basketball from a floating basketball court where each team member had to make one basket. Then they had to deliver the items to a man on the dock for their next clue. In Village Work, teams went to a fishing area and waded into waist-deep water to find two fishing traps filled with fish. They had to take the traps back to the dock and put the fish into baskets to get their next clue.

The siblings decided to go to Village Work. The mom/son decided the same. Team S&M decided on village life. Team Emo finally arrived and asked them to fix the boat while they got their clue. They decided on Village Work so they wouldn’t have to take their boat to three different locations. When they arrived back at the boat, it was not fixed yet. Of course, they were only gone getting the clue for about a minute. The divorced ladies and frat boys were still making their way to Koh Andeth while the siblings and mom/son were almost to the fishing area. Dallas said it was like Waterworld with everything on the water. Dallas didn’t like being in the water with the mud on the ground and he was sure snakes and crocodiles were near his feet. His mom told him to calm down, it was just mud. Go mom!

Team S&M picked up a doll from the tailor around the same time that the siblings found one fishing trap filled with fish. Team Emo were stuck waiting for 10 minutes while the boat was being fixed. Aja & Ty finally arrived at the boats and were making their way to Koh Andeth. They were getting closer to everyone else! Team Emo got their boat working and were on their way. Nick found the fishing task harder than he thought it would be while mom/son were still searching for a fish trap. Team S&M were heading to the dentist for the teeth. The siblings got both traps and were headed back to their boat. Team S&M had their teeth and were headed to the basketball court. Mom/son thought they were done, but then realized one of their traps didn’t have any fish in it. The siblings were back in their boat and headed toward the docks. Mom/son got it and headed towards the docks when Team S&M arrived at the basketball court. Team Emo saw Team S&M at the basketball court and changed their minds. They wanted to do Village Life since they were there.

The siblings passed the basketball court on the way to the dock while Team S&M and Team Emo were there trying to make baskets. The divorced ladies came by and figured they had to play basketball so they asked the boat to stop. They hadn’t picked up the detour clue yet though. Team Emo made baskets quicker than Team S&M. Well, Ken made a basket quickly, but Tina could not make it in. She finally got it though and they were headed to the docks while Team Emo went to go do the other two tasks.

The divorced ladies grabbed a basketball and Christy made a basket before she asked if they should find a clue box first. The frat guys arrived at the detour clue box. They decided to go with Village Work. The divorced ladies finally read their clue again and realized they were in the wrong spot so they headed to Kho Andeth and ran by the frat guys who were leaving for the fishing area. Team Emo picked up the teeth and were headed to the tailor shop. The siblings were coming up to the docks. They dumped out their fish and got the next clue.

Clue: Teams had to take a tuk tuk to Angkor Wat, a temple and former capital of Cambodia.

The siblings took off towards the next clue box with Team S&M close behind them. Mom/son arrived at the docks right after Team S&M left so they were in third place headed to the temple. Aja & Ty finally arrvied at Kho Andeth and chose village work. The frat boys were getting the fish while the divorced ladies were back at the basketball court making baskets and getting balls. The divorced ladies were getting a doll when Team Emo were dropping off their items at the docks and headed to the temple in fourth place. The frat guys had their two crates of fish and were getting back on their boat headed to the docks. The divored ladies showed up at the dentist and thought for a second they had to get the teeth of the lady in the dentist chair. No one else thought that. God, they are dumb. Aja & Ty were in the water looking for fishing traps.

Angkor Wat

The siblings arrived at Angkor Wat first with Team S&M right behind them. The clue was a road block.

Road block: One team member had to explore the entire grounds to find a very tiny room that almost looked like a passageway that is called the Chamber of Echoes. Once there, teams had to thump on their chest in order to make it echo in the room. Then they could take a stone tablet from the ground that had their next clue.

The road block asked who had a better sense of direction. Nick decided he did so off he went. Tina decided to do it. Mom/son arrived and Dallas went off searching. Back at the detour, the frat boys and divorced ladies hit the docks at the same time. The frat boys could not believe the ladies caught up. I think that doing the one detour took longer than taking the boat to three different places. The divorced ladies were in fifth place heading to the temple with the frat boys right after them in sixth place. Aja & Ty finished up some time after them and they were in last place headed to the temple.

At the road block, Nick was asking people if they knew where the room was located, but no one he asked knew. He started walking around. Tina was doing the same thing, but was worried she would have to climb up steep steps at some point. Dallas found someone right away that knew the room and pointed him in the right direction. Team Emo arrived at the temple and Terence decided to do it. Nick finally found someone that knew where the room was located. He got there before Dallas did and got the next clue directing him to the pit stop.

Clue: Teams had to make their way to Bayon Temple, which is a Buddhist Temple, and the pit stop for this leg of the race. They had to search the grounds for Phil.

After Nick got the clue, he hid it under his shirt and ran out. He ran by Tina and asked her if she had found it yet. She said no and didn’t notice the huge bulge of a stone tablet under his t-shirt. He ran by Terence who did a double-take. The siblings took off in first place to the temple.

While headed to Angkor Wat, Christy said they needed to be in first place so everyone would recognize they were a force to be reckoned with. I don’t believe so ladies since you are never in first place. The frat boys hoped they could pass people at Angkor Wat. Aja & Ty looked like they were close behind the frat boys on the way to the temple.

Tina was thumping her chest in random rooms, but none of them were right. Terence was asking people if they knew where the room was located, but no luck. Dallas finally found the room and grabbed the clue. Mom/son were in second place headed to the pit stop. Terence found someone that knew where the room was and was willing to take him there. Terence got the clue and Team Emo were in third place headed to the pit stop. Tina walked through the room twice talking to herself saying she must be missing it and must be blind. You are correct!

Tina finally found the room, realized she was an idiot and then wondered if she could find her way out. Christy found someone to show her the room. The person was trying to show her that the thumping echoed, but I think Christy missed that part. She just grabbed the clue and left. Tina was still lost. Christy got out first so the divorced ladies were in fourth place headed to the pit stop. Tina found her way out and Team S&M were in fifth place to the pit stop.

Pit Stop

The siblings arrived to the mat first. They won a trip to St. Johns.

Back at the road block, the frat boys arrived with Andrew saying it was the original Playboy mansion. Huh? Okay! Andrew went running around. Toni & Dallas were team number two with Team Emo right behind them in third place. Andrew was still looking for the room at the road block while Aja & Ty were getting closer to the temple. The divorced ladies arrived at the pit stop and were running around the grounds trying to find Phil. Team S&M arrived and they were looking for Phil too. Andrew finally found the chamber at the road block. The frat boys were leaving just as Aja & Ty arrived. Ty found it fairly quickly since someone knew where it was and directed him. Team S&M found Phil before the divorced ladies who could not believe someone got there ahead of them. Way to be number one and show everyone that you cannot be underestimated! Ty found the clue. The frat boys were at the pit stop looking for Phil. Aja & Ty were headed to the pit stop but suspected they might be last. They were in good spirits though. The frat boys were lost at the pit stop. It appeared Aja & Ty had arrived when Dan finally saw Phil. That made Aja & Ty in last place and were eliminated.

The order the teams arrived:

  1. Nick & Starr (siblings)
  2. Toni & Dallas (mom/son)
  3. Terence & Sarah (Team Emo)
  4. Ken & Tina (Team S&M)
  5. Kelly & Christy (divorced ladies)
  6. Andrew & Dan (frat boys)
  7. Aja & Ty (long-distance dating)

Aja & Ty were happy and not too sad they were last. Ty said he was moving to be with Aja after the race. Also, Team Emo got a thirty minute penalty for speeding. It didn’t affect the outcome of this leg, but they will leave the pit stop thirty minutes later in the next leg.
