TAR: Dye Time!

Amazing Race
My Nose Is on Fire

This leg of the race included a Speed Bump for Team S&M because they were last in a non-elimination leg. In the past, the game has had nothing happen to teams that came in last in a non-elimination leg. Then they lost their bags and all their money. They only had what was on their backs after that. That was annoying since they had to beg and plead with people to give them money. It wasn’t much fun to watch.  Then, they had the teams marked for death where they had a time penalty when they checked into the pit stop. Time penalties are not very exciting to watch either. I like the extra task that they have to do because it depends more on their skills and reading clues like the rest of the race. It’s the same with the U-Turns where teams are sent back to do the other detour instead of just standing around not doing anything for a period of time when there were Yields before U-Turns.

The order in which teams left the pit stop:

  • Nick & Starr (siblings) – 8:55 am
  • Kelly & Christy (divorced ladies) – 9:02 am
  • Toni & Dallas (mom/son) – 9:10 am
  • Terence & Sarah (Team Emo) – 9:31am
  • Andrew & Dan (frat guys) – 9:44 am
  • Ken & Tina (Team S&M) – 9:51am

Clue: Find the Deshbandhu Apartments and search for the central park for the next clue.

The teams were staying in India so no airport fun times again! I love them traveling, but I could so do without the drama at the airports. I want to see the different places and watch them succeed and fail at tasks.

The siblings were the first ones to leave in a cab. They talked about how they are willing to tell little white lies to other teams to get themselves ahead. The divorced ladies left next where Christy  said they had migrated to the front of the pack. They were not going to watch other teams come in first, second or third place. They were not that kind of people. What were they when they were coming in almost last until this last leg? Mom/son left in third place. Toni said she trusts Dallas more since doing the race with him than she did before. While driving Christy asked Kelly if she had to make out with Dan or Andrew, who would she make out with. Why would you ask that? Oh my god! Kelly said she would make out with Andrew since he was different. Christy said she would have to make out with Dan then. He would probably get up in the middle of kissing to start pacing. The camera man then shows Dan pacing waiting for them to reach their proper time to leave the pit stop and open their clue. Oh, too funny. When the frat guys left, Andrew said that they had strengths on the opposite side of the spectrum so he hoped they would get a task that they would both kick ass. What is Dan good at? What has he done? Nothing! I have seen no strengths in him except for whining. Ken was very positive leaving the pit stop saying they would have a great day and get back into the race.

The siblings were the first to arrive at the clue box and found a road block. It asked who was up for a colorful experience.

Road Block: The person had to run through the courtyard while getting pelted with colorful dye and water from the revelers to go up a ladder and search among hundreds of envelopes that said “Try Again” to find the one that is marked “The Amazing Race” to find the next clue.

Holy Festival

Starr decided to do the road block. She took off a good portion of her clothes until she was down to her shorts and a tank top before she went running through the courtyard to a ladder. She was safe until she was up a ladder looking for the clue. Then she started to get pelted. The divorced ladies’ cab driver got out of the cab to start asking directions. Starr found it fairly quickly and got the next clue.

Clue: Go into Old Delhi and find the Charity Birds Hospital. Once there, they had to search through bird cages for their next clue.

Before they took off, Nick started to wipe some of the dye off of Starr’s face. A local ran by and threw tons of pink dye into Nick’s face. oops! They ran off before they got doused again. Toni & Dallas arrived and Dallas decided to get hit with the dye. Dallas found the clue while the divorced ladies were still driving through town choking from the smells outside. Mom/son took off before the divorced ladies arrived and Kelly decided to do it. She ran through the dye screaming. She didn’t even get up a ladder before she ran back to Christy saying she needed water because there was paint in her mouth. Don’t scream while running. Christy said that she knew it was an annual tradition, but she thought the entire thing was dreadful. Kelly got all suited up with a hat, glasses and a bandanna over her face. She went running through the mess up a ladder, grabbed a clue and ran it back to Christy. She thought she just had to grab one envelope. So much for reading the clues! Christy pointed out it was not the real clue, right when Team Emo showed up.

Terence decided to do the road block. He asked Sarah who was his girl and she said, “You are! I mean, I am!” Ha ha! Terence ran right for a ladder and started looking for a clue. Kelly finally got back in there and up a ladder looking for a clue too. Kelly grabbed another one and brought it back to Christy to open. She wasn’t looking at them at all, but running back and forth like an idiot. Christy didn’t seem to understand the rules either since she wasn’t telling Kelly to keep looking for the right one. She kept opening each one even though it said “Try Again” on it really big. Terence found an actual clue and was running back to Sarah when the frat boys arrived. When Terence was running back to Sarah, he shoved a few locals away from him who were bent over getting more dye. Nice. Kelly wondered how Terence got it so fast and wondered if she was doing something wrong. Did she reread the clue? No. She just went back in to grab another one.

Oh my god! Dan did something! He decided to do the road block. Would he whine? He did some weird running/hopping thing to the ladder, but got up there. He told the camera guy later that it was like a rave where the hot chicks forgot to show up. In the cab on the way to the bird hospital, Terence was telling Sarah that it was the most physically demanding thing he ever had to do. Of course it is in Mr. Emo’s mind until the next task which will be the hardest thing ever. Living in absolute world must be awesome. Andrew got hit with some dye while he was standing around. For some reason, people were leaving Christy alone. Dan got the clue and ran back to Andrew. He wondered how he found it so quick. The real question was why was it taking Kelly so long? Kelly ran back to Christy with yet another fake clue. The poor camera man was so drenched in dye that you could barely see out of the camera. They should get hazard pay for having to follow around dumb people.

Kelly went back out into the courtyard and ran so fast that she tripped over a bucket of dye and fell face first into the dirt and dye. She got up and immediately ran to Christy saying she couldn’t do it. She said she would die. She couldn’t do it. Christy can’t do it for her though. Kelly had to finish it. Christy finally told her to not bring back a clue until she has the right one. She said that Kelly did not have to bring back each clue for her to open. Kelly was searching through envelopes and Christy got dye thrown on her. Kelly finally got the right one and they took off. I can’t believe they finished. They tried to get into a cab, but the drivers wouldn’t take them because they were too dirty. oops! They ran off looking for other cabs.

Team S&M arrived to the road block after the divorced ladies had left. Ken decided to do it and rushed into a huge cloud of pink smoke. The divorced ladies were saying they should have kept their taxi. They were the only team that shooed their driver away since he couldn’t find the apartments quickly. Ken got to a ladder and started searching. Tina started yelling to search for the clue and got doused in a punch of green paint. She started yelling at the people, calling them morons and pushing them away. Ah, ugly Americans! The divorced ladies were waving their money around trying to get a cab to stop for them, but no one would do it. I don’t know if it was Kelly so much since she was pretty much black all over. I think it was Christy and her half pinkness that was scaring the drivers. Ken got the clue and Team S&M got into their cab looking about as bad as the divorced ladies. Tina asked Ken if he liked her green hair. The divorced ladies finally found a cab to pick them up.

Charity Birds Hospital

The siblings arrived at the hospital. Nick read the part of the clue that said they had to take their shoes and socks off in order to observe the customs in the temple. After taking off their shoes and socks, they were running around trying to find the way inside the hospital. They passed by the speed bump for Team S&M. They were looking through the cages when they found the next clue, which was a detour.

Detour: In Bleary Eyed, teams had to follow a power line and keep track of the numbers listed on the tiny tags randomly along the lines until they found a man at a sewing machine and gave him the numbers. If they were correct, he would send them over to a shop across the street to get their next clue. In Teary Eyed, they had to go to a market and find a stall where they would pick up two 40-pound bags of chilies and deliver them on foot 1/4 mile to where they had to use a mortar and pestle to make enough chili powder to fill up to a designated line in a  bowl.

The siblings decided to go with Bleary Eyed since it sounded easier. They got onto a bike-type rickshaw to head to where they needed to start.  Toni & Dallas arrived with a bunch of Indian kids following them. Dallas asked them to help show them where the hospital was located and one kid excidtedly took him there. Dallas found the clue fairly quickly and they chose Bleary Eyed. The kids said they would show them where the street was located to start the task so they were running down the street with the kids. Team Emo arrived at the bird hospital, but not without Terence whining about paint being in his nose. Terence thought that the clue would be in one of the cages under the bird seed so Sarah went inside of it to look while he stood outside telling her what to do. She was lifting boxes with birds standing in them, looking for a clue underneath before they determined there was nothing in the huge cage they were looking in.  I swear, these people are a comedy of errors.

Team Emo finally went around the corner and found the very easy-to-spot clue in an empty bird cage. They decided to go with Teary Eyed since Terence said strength tasks were one of their strong suits. They got into a rickshaw and took off with Terence freaking out about being in a rickshaw. The frat boys arrived at the bird hospital. They went right in and found the clue almost immediately. They decided on Bleary Eyed. Team S&M got to the bird hospital before divorced ladies who where laughing hysterically in the back of their cab yelling out the window to scare people with their paint. Christy told Kelly she was high on fumes. Team S&M got their speed bump clue.

Speed Bump: They had to complete a form of community service where they would serve holy water to the patrons of the temple. They would complete the task after there were no more worshippers wanting water.

The divorced ladies arrived at the bird hospital and found the clue pretty quickly. They decided on Bleary Eyed.

Bleary Eyed vs Teary Eyed

The siblings arrived at the street and found the first marked pole for the Bleary Eyed task. They started off trying to follow the power line with Starr running into parked cars and motorcycles while looking up in the sky. Toni & Dallas arrived at the pole. Nick finally saw a tag on one of them so they knew what the number tags looked like. They went back to the beginning and started again. They passed Toni & Dallas who asked if they had seen anything. The siblings said they hadn’t seen anything. Then when they noticed another number, Dallas saw it too. The siblings acted like they had just discovered their first number and decided to work with the mom/son. Oh sneaky siblings.

Over in the other detour, Team Emo arrived at the shop to pick up the bags of chilies. They started walking. Team S&M arrived at their speed bump and started doling out water. They taught Tina how to say welcome so she was being super nice to everyone by bowing, saying welcome and handing out water. The divorced ladies were stuck in a rickshaw with a chatty driver who was telling them all the local landmarks.

Nick was very happy that Toni & Dallas were there to help since it was so hard to find the numbers. The two teams working together seemed to be a good fit. Team Emo got to the shop where they had to deliver their chili bags.  They started pulverizing the chili peppers, but it was very intense once it was turned into powder. Terence had to stand up and get some fresh air. The frat boys arrived at the marked pole and started looking for a tags. Team S&M were running out of people to serve water so they asked if they were done. They received their next clue, which was telling them to go back to the bird hospital.

The divorced ladies got to the marked pole and then asked their rickshaw guy to go slow so they could follow the pole. I think the dye seeped into their brains. I don’t know if it went against the rules of the detour, but how would being in a moving vehicle be a good idea when trying to find small numbers on a power lines? Due to their brilliance, I think they might have given Team S&M a chance to catch up, but they were stuck in a traffic jam trying to get back to the bird hospital. Team S&M got out of their cab and started to make way in the street for the car to move. Why didn’t they just get out and walk then? Tina told Ken to be respectful when he was moving rickshaws out of the way. He is as bad as her, but she probably doens’t think she was being disrespectful shoving people earlier. They cleared a path for the car to turn a corner and they finally got back into it to drive the rest of the way to the bird hospital.

The siblings and mom/son teams got to the end of the street. They found the man with the sewing machine and gave him the numbers. They were right and were both given a ticket to go over to the stationary store across the street. They had to plug in an elephant to get the clue. Both the siblings and mom/son were headed to the pit stop.

Clue: Teams had to make their way to Humayun’s Tomb, which was a mausoleum commerating past emperors. It was the pit stop for this leg of the race.

Back over on the other detour, Ms. Emo was saying that her throat was on fire and her eyes were stinging like crazy. I was shocked that Mr. Emo wasn’t whining more. He asked if it was good when only half of their bowl was filled. Could he not see the line? They were told it was not good. They had wished they had done the other detour. Ms. Emo was whining to the camera later that the shop owner was not sympathetic to their suffering. Does she think that they had never done what she is doing?  She’s the first one!

On the power lines, the frat boys were not finding the correct number tags. They were writing down numbers from hanging advertisements. Andrew questioned if the signs were connected to power lines (they weren’t) and Dan said they were and to just keep walking. The divorced ladies were still in their rickshaw crusing down the street, also writing down hanging advertisement numbers. Oh dear. At the bird hospital, Team S&M found the clue for the detour. They decided on Bleary Eyed. Don’t worry Team S&M. You have two dumb teams ahead of you. You are still in the race!

The siblings and mom/son were stuck in a bad traffic jam on the way to the pit stop. The frat boys were at the guy with the sewing machine, who shooed them away due to their wrong numbers and spit on the ground. Christy was commenting that they were not normal straight American power lines, but a big mess. Team S&M were in a cab headed to the power line street. The road block finally cleared and the siblings and mom/son were finally cruising towards the pit stop again. Team Emo were getting closer to being done with Ms. Emo whining about no other team doing the detour with them and probably breezing through the other one while they were doing that one like fools. The frat boys were roaming the street looking for numbers again. Andrew found three 15’s hanging from advertisements and said he only wrote down one while missing the number tag up above.  The divorced ladies showed up at the sewing guy who gave them the thumbs down and shooed them away. They got back into their rickshaw and asked him to turn around. Oh the frat boys and divorced ladies do not learn from their mistakes.

Pit Stop

The siblings and mom/son arrived at the pit stop, but had to find Isa Khan’s tomb on the grounds. The siblings got there first. They won a trip to Hawaii. Toni & Dallas showed up in second place.

Back at the detour, the frat boys were turning in their wrong numbers for the second time to the sewing guy. Andrew was asking him to show him some love. He gave them the thumbs down. Dan held his head in frustration and yelled a bit. The divorced ladies said they were stressed out since it was hard finding the numbers. It would be if you were cruising along in a rickshaw instead of walking and looking at the actual power lines. Team S&M were at the marked pole. They actually found a number tag so they were on a good start and might actually pass the frat boys and divorced ladies who were at a loss on how to actually complete the detour.  Dan said he didn’t know what to do. Andrew said they had to go back and try again. Dan said they should watch the divorced ladies and see what they do. They were failing at it too, so they would not be good ones to watch, but they didn’t know they were failing at it. The divorced ladies got their numbers wrong. Dan asked them if they wanted to work together. Kelly said they were afraid they were in last place and it would be too close for them both to finish the detour at the same time. Christy said they were going to have to say no.

Team Emo finished their task and headed to the pit stop. Team S&M were cruising finding tags. The divorced ladies were still in the rickshaw writing down the advertisement numbers. Team S&M passed by the frat boys and were thrilled they were still in it. The divorced ladies were turning in their numbers again when Team S&M finished and waited for the sewing guy to be free. Christy tried to hide her numbers so Team S&M wouldn’t see. Tina said they didn’t need to do that. They had their own numbers. Sewing guy told the divorced ladies they were wrong again and they left. The divorced ladies finally got out of the rickshaw and started walking down the street. The sewing guy did not appreciate Tina standing right next to him while he was trying to compare the numbers so he gently pushed her away. She was confused by why he did that. Personal space! She thought they had got the numbers wrong, but he gave them the card to go across the street for the clue. They got the clue and headed towards the pit stop in fourth place.

While walking the street for the millionth time, Kelly finally saw the small number tag and they realized they had been going too fast up the street and missing what they should have been looking for. The frat boys ran past Team S&M and asked them if they got it. Dan said it was really hard and Andrew started listing off his numbers of 12, 12, 12, 15. Tina said those sounded wrong and realized they had been looking at the wrong numbers. Both Ken & Tina showed them the correct numbers they needed to be looking for. Team S&M were getting into a cab headed to the pit stop when Team Emo were checking in, completely shocked they were still in the race since they hadn’t seen another team in so long.

Both the divorced ladies and frat boys were writing down the correct numbers. The frat boys finished and ran towards the sewing guy. The divorced ladies finished too, but the frat boys were there first. They got it right and got the pass to the clue. They were on their way to the pit stop. The divorced ladies were at the sewing guy and got the pass for the clue. They were on their way to the pit stop. Team S&M checked into the pit stop in fourth place. Both teams were stuck in traffic with the frat boys slightly ahead of the divorced ladies. The frat boys arrived to the pit stop in fifth place, which made the divorced ladies in last place. They were eliminated from the race. Good bye, crazy dumb ladies.

Final order arriving at the pit stop:

  1. Nick & Starr (siblings)
  2. Toni & Dallas (mom/son)
  3. Terence & Sarah (Team Emo)
  4. Ken & Tina (Team S&M)
  5. Andrew & Dan (frat guys)
  6. Kelly & Christy (divorced ladies)
