TAR: Mmm…Sheep Fat

Amazing Race
I’m Like an Angry Cow

This leg of the race had an eating challenge. If anyone had watched the show in previous seasons and seen what the eating challenges have consisted of, they are almost always a lot of meat. I can’t remember one that didn’t have meat. If someone knew they had to eat something, why would they assume it would be vegetarian? It must be the same kind of thinking that believes barreling through the race without stopping to read clues is the way to win. It doesn’t work!

The order in which teams left the pit stop:

  • Nick & Starr (siblings) – 10:14 pm
  • Toni & Dallas (mom/son) – 10:24 pm
  • Terence & Sarah (Team Emo) – 10:43 pm
  • Ken & Tina (Team S&M) -11:48 pm
  • Andrew & Dan (frat guys) – 12:00 am

Clue: Fly to Almaty, Kazakhstan and take a taxi to a Chicken Factory for their next clue.

The siblings and mom/son went to a nearby hotel to see what they could find for flights. They found one that would land at 11:50 pm. They made a reservation, but had to go to the airport to get the ticket. Team Emo, Team S&M and frat boys went straight to the airport.

Airport Fun Times

While the siblings and mom/son were picking up their tickets that went through Frankfurt, Team Emo was checking on a flight that went through Moscow and landed at 1:20 am. There were only two tickets left on that flight. Team S&M arrived at the airport. Ken’s bag broke. Tina turned around and looked at him picking up stuff and said, “Come on.” Did she help? No! That would have slowed her down. Team Emo found out about the Frankfurt flight so they told their agent guy they were going to see if they could get on that one and if that didn’t work, they would be back for the Moscow flight. Team S&M were in the same Frankfurt line and were at the counter the same time as Team Emo. Team S&M’s agent typed faster so they got on the flight, but Team Emo didn’t make it. They went back to the Moscow one. The frat boys arrived and didn’t make the Moscow flight since Team Emo got the last two seats so their flight left much later.

Almaty, Kazakhstan

Team S&M, siblings and mom/son got off their flights and into cabs. The driver said the chicken factory was only 10 minutes away. They all went running around in the dark looking for a clue box. They found a closed gate that said they couldn’t get in until 7:30 am. Well, we know at least Team Emo is catching up! How far behind were the frat boys? Not sure! Team Emo did catch up. The sun started to come up and everyone doubted they would see the frat boys. They still weren’t there. They were shown getting off their flight and the sun was up. Their cab driver seemed to get lost trying to find it, but they made it! The frat boys arrived before the gates opened so everyone was caught up. I like it better that way since it makes it more exciting. The gates opened and everyone ran towards the clue. It was a road block.

Chickens!

Road Block: One team member had to search among 30,000 chickens to find one of seven golden eggs.

The clue also came with a Fast Forward, the second of only two on the entire race. The first team to make it to the Fast Forward and completes it, can skip all other tasks and go straight to the pit stop.

Fast Forward: Teams would need to indulge in a local Kazakhstan delicacy. What they didn’t know until they arrived was the delicacy was the fat from the rear end of a sheep. Both team members would have to finish their serving to receive the fast forward reward.

The siblings and Team Emo both started running towards the Fast Forward while the other teams decided to stay behind and do the Road Block. Andrew, Tina and Toni all decided to do the road block. Toni was the first one to find the golden egg, so her and Dallas received the next clue.

Clue: They needed to find the giant crane trucks on the grounds and take one of them to Koktobe Arch, at the foothills of the Teinshan Mountains, where they would follow the marked path to the Mongol Warriors. The warrior would lead them to their next clue.

Andrew found the golden egg next around the time that mom/son found the crane truck and started heading to the next clue. Tina got her golden egg and was about to pass Andrea getting out of the chicken factory since he was so worried about stepping on one of them. She was almost running through and they were getting out of her way. Andrew did make it out, just before Tina.

Sheep Fat

Over at the fast forward, the siblings arrived at the restaurant just before Team Emo. They both sat down and ordered the food. Starr said that the menu explained what they would be eating, but she didn’t look. She just ordered what the clue said to order and tried not to think about it. When the food was being set down, Terence started freaking out because it was meat and he is a vegetarian. Why would a vegetarian go to an eating challenge if he had the choice to avoid it? He was telling Sarah he couldn’t eat it. Oh Mr. Emo.  Starr was just chowing down and trying not to chew her food. She was gagging, but eating it fast. Mr. Emo was more concerned with how the siblings were doing compared to actually trying to do the challenge.

Toni & Dallas were still driving to Koktobe Arch with Team S&M and the frat boys wnot too far behind them. They arrived at the Arch where they found the Mongol warriors who brought them up the hill. They had to wait there while a hawk flew over to bring them their next clue, which was a detour.

Detour: In Play Like Mad, they had to travel to the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments where they would have to learn a simple Kazakhstan folk song on two traditional instruments. When the instructor thought they learned the tune well enough, they would go to a nearby park and play for tips. They would have to earn the equivalent of $1.50 to get their next clue. In Act Like Fools, teams had to go to a children’s puppet theater, find the wardrobe department and put on a two-person cow costume. They would have to walk the streets as the cow to find a marked stall and drink a class of milk. At the bottom of the milk, it would direct them to go to a nearby bazaar and deliver themselves to the butcher to get their next clue.

Toni & Dallas decided to do the cow task. They were walking down the hill as Team S&M were walking up the hill. The frat boys were lost. Back at the road block, Starr was still choking on her food while eating it faster than everyone else. Terence was saying he couldn’t do it. He asked Sarah if she could finish. She said she could and he looked a bit disappointed that she could since his plate was pretty much full. They looked over at the siblings and saw that Starr was only about 2-3 bites away from being done and gave up on the fast forward. Over at the other stuff, Team S&M was choosing the cow detour and heading down the hill. No idea on the frat boys. Team Emo headed back to the road block. Nick finished his last bite and they got their clue to take them to the pit stop.

The frat boys were lost on the road and frustrated that no one they spoke to knew English. Of course, they didn’t speak the native language, but that’s beside the point! While they were being lost, Team Emo arrived back at the road block. Sarah decided to do it. She kept talking to the chickens while looking for the egg. While out being lost, Dan said that the Kazakhstan people were horrible since they didn’t understand him. Oh, it is time for him to go home. Sarah found the egg and they went to find the crane truck. One lady finally understood the frat boys and told the driver to keep driving straight. They seemed relieved. Didn’t Dallas see a sign pointing them where to go? Why didn’t the frat boys look at signs? Team Emo found their crane truck and were on their way.

Moo Cow

The siblings arrived at the pit stop where they both won a wave runner. Around that time, Toni & Dallas picked up their cow costume at the puppet theater with mom as the butt end of it. When they were leaving the theater, Team S&M were headed in with Ken as the butt end of the cow. While going down the steps of the theater, Ken started mooing. Tina told him to quit screwing around. Toni & Dallas were having more fun with Dallas telling his mom to shake her tail and mooing. People were laughing at them and Dallas’ mooing was pretty funny. Comparing that to Team S&M where Tina was just saying which way they had to turn and telling Ken not to push.

The frat boys finally got to the hill and then argued all the way up it. Dan wanted Andrew to walk quicker. Andrew asked him to walk the same pace as him. Dan offered to carry his back pack so he could walk faster. Andrew told him to be his team mate and just walk with him. Dan said no, he wanted to walk quicker and if Andrew would just try harder, he could do it. Excuse me? Dan? The one who has only done one fast forward and can’t seem to do anything but whine wants Andrew to try harder? Team Emo stopped the crane and found someone in a car that knew how to get to the arch. Terence said if the crane could follow the car, he would pay them.

Toni & Dallas went right by the milk stall, but Dallas didn’t see anything marked. I don’t know if he was looking for the orange and red flag, but it was just a picture of milk. They went on by. When Team S&M arrived, Tina recognized it right away. Tina grabbed a glass of milk and started drinking. She said it was warm and strong. Dallas figured they were too far away and somehow missed it, so they headed back. Tina got done with her milk and asked if the guy had a clue. He didn’t have one. She needed to look at the bottom of the glass. I don’t know if the clue had said that or if she would only notice if by looking at the bottom of the glass after drinking it. She wondered if they had the wrong milk stand. Toni & Dallas saw Team S&M at the stall so they knew the one they needed to go to. Team S&M had left since they figured they were at the wrong stall. Dallas drank the milk and asked the guy if he had a clue. The guy said no and Toni asked what the clue said. He read it again and it said it would be revealed. He figured it out by looking at the glass bottom with the name of the meat stall in the bazaar they had to find. He asked where the bazaar was located and went in that direction. They felt good since they saw Team S&M going in the wrong direction without taking their clue with them. Team S&M found someone and asked them if they knew where the stall was located. They were pointed back to where they just came from with the milk. Tina picked up the glass and yelled at herself for not looking at it before leaving. They wondered what to do with the cow costume. Ken said to take it back to the costume department. Uh-oh!

The frat boys finally made it to the top of the hill to get the detour clue. They picked the cow one. Dan said that he should be in the front and Andrew said no. Dan said that due to weight distribution and physics, it would make more sense for Andrew to be in the pack. Someone alert the BS horn. Team Emo were still headed to the arch. Mom/son were looking for the bazaar and Team S&M were back at the children’s theater. Ken asked if Tina was sure they should give it back. It was his idea! She said she was sure. Why did no one reread the clue? They took the costume off and headed to the bazaar. Toni & Dallas were at the bazaar and were looking for the correct meat stall, still mooing and dancing along. Dallas saw the right one and got the clue to the pit stop.

Clue: Teams had to make their way on foot through the city to find the Old Square, which was the pit stop. It said teams should bring their cow head to the mat.

Toni asked if it said anything about a taxi and Dallas said they had to go on foot. Yeah for reading the clue! He might not know geography, but he can stop and read. Mom/son had half of the costume on them while walking out of the bazaar when they passed by Team S&M. They asked them where their costume was and they said they dropped it back at the children’s theater. Dallas informed them that they had to wear it. Mom/son headed to the pit stop while Tina read the bottom of the milk glass again saying it didn’t say anything about wearing the costume. Ken said they should go into the bazaar and see what they say. Toni said they shouldn’t have told them and Dallas agreed. It didn’t matter since they didn’t get very far anyway. Team S&M showed up at the meat area and they wouldn’t give them a clue since they weren’t a cow. Haha! They headed back to get it again.

Team Emo got to the arch and picked the cow detour. The frat boys were still headed to the theater. Team S&M had the cow costume back on and were headed to the bazaar again. The frat boys got to the theater and put on the cow costume. Andrew wondered what to do with their shoes. Dan said they could get their shoes later. Put them in your backpack? Tie them around your belt loops? Take them with you!

Pit Stop

The siblings had arrived much earlier before the teams started on the detour. Mom/son arrived at the pit stop in second place. Team S&M were finally back at the bazaar and the meat section. They had the clue to the pit stop. Tina read the clue out loud where it said to go by foot. Then she said they should probably take a cab. She fails at reading comprehension. Ken pointed out that it said to go by foot.

The frat boys started wandering around in their cow costume. Dan started yelling randomly at people to help him. Andrew said he was scaring them and to ask people individually. Dan obviously knew what he was doing though! Team Emo got their cow costume on and found someone right away that knew where the milk stall was and was going to lead them there. Team S&M checked into the pit stop. Dan finally found a taxi driver who was willing to walk them to the milk stall for money. They got there before Team Emo did. Dan drank the milk and asked if the taxi guy could show them where the bazaar was located. Team Emo arrived and Terence drank the milk. They were off to the bazaar. Frat boys got the clue to the pit stop and the taxi guy was going to show them to the pit stop. Andrew asked about their shoes and Dan said they would need to get their shoes later. Then the frat boys got into a cab. Oh no! They arrived at the pit stop in fourth place, but Phil made them go back to the end of the detour and make their way back on foot since they did not read their clue correctly. Haha! Tell them to get their shoes while they are at it!

Team Emo were still heading to the bazaar and shockingly Terence was being supportive to Sarah. He was telling her she was doing great. What happened to Mr. Emo? Had he been watching the show? The frat boys were taking a taxi back to the detour and trying to remember the way back to the pit stop. Team Emo made it into the bazaar and got their clue to the pit stop. The frat boys didn’t pay much attention since they had to ask for directions to the Old Square. They wished they had their shoes since the boots with the cow costume were not easy to walk or run in. Team Emo were getting directions too. They were both heading to the Old Square, but who would find it first? It would be the frat boys. They were in fourth place again. That would make Team Emo in last place, but they were in good spirits. They were eliminated from the race.  Bye crazy Team Emo!

The order the teams arrived at the pit stop:

  1. Nick & Starr (siblings)
  2. Toni & Dallas (mom/son)
  3. Ken & Tina (Team S&M)
  4. Dan & Andrew (frat boys)
  5. Terence & Sarah (Team Emo)
