Category: 2008, Movies, Openingvelveetahead @ 1:09 pm

You might have heard tween girls screaming this week. That’s because Twilight was finally released. If you aren’t into emo vampires falling in love, then you have the option to watch the animated disillusioned doggie film, Bolt, that does have a cute hamster in it.

Nationwide Releases

Bolt
Twilight

Bolt
Directed: Chris Williams
Starring: John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Susie Essman, Malcolm McDowell
Trailer

Synopsis: A dog is the star of a hit TV show, but he thinks the superpowers he has in the show are real, which becomes a problem when he gets accidentally shipped from Hollywood to New York City.

My Take: The hamster makes me laugh every time I see him in the ball.

RT Score: 84%
RT Consensus: Bolt is a pleasant animated comedy that overcomes the story’s familiarity with strong visuals and likable characters.

Twilight
Directed: Catherine Hardwicke
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli
Trailer

Synopsis: Based on the hugely popular books, a teenage vampire falls in love with a human teenage girl.

My Take: As much as I love vampires, this is just too sickly sweet for me.

RT Score: 43%
RT Consensus: Having lost much of its bite transitioning to the big screen, Twilight will please its devoted fans, but do little for the uninitiated.

Limited Releases

My Take: It looks hilarious.

RT Score: 57%
RT Consensus: This quirky indie comedy’s low budget is readily apparent, but it’s elevated by Michael Rapaport’s dedicated performance.

Were the World Mine
Directed: Tom Gustafson
Starring: Tanner Cohen, Wendi Robie, Judy McLane
Trailer

Synopsis: A gay guy stumbles across a love potion and sets off turning half of his small-minded town guy while also have musical day dreams.

My Take: Making everyone gay sounds funny, but the singing scares me.

I have wanted to see Bolt since I saw my first preview of it way back in the summer! I love the hamster, he is hilarious! Hopefully he gets his own spin off movie.
