It isn’t everything that is released today, but music that came out that might interest me.  :)

The new album is not as frantic as previous albums with more mid-tempo songs, but it suits the band. I just hope their live shows are still awesome to watch. I saw them open up for the White Stripes and they were so much better than the main act.

Amazing Race
Gorilla? Gorilla?? Gorilla???

I have picked the team that I hate! It isn’t really the entire team that I hate, but I’m sorry Cara, you are on a team with Jamie. She is horrible. I have seen it slowly creeping up, but she was in full-on haughty, condescending bitch mode in this episode. Ick! Beyond Jamie and her shriekiness, I did love this episode since the teams finally quit reading directions! It is always more fun when they make mistakes from being exhausted and compltely fail at reading comprehension. I know the race makes it happen due to non stop racing without much rest time, but I still find it entertaining.  Am I mean? Maybe. What is the most important thing in this episode and recap? It really is that elephant squatting over someone up above. How messed up is that?

Order teams left the pit stop:

  1. Tammy & Victor – 10:21 am
  2. Mel & Mike – 10:50 am
  3. Kisha & Jen – 11:02 am
  4. Margie & Luke – 11:03 am
  5. Jamie & Cara – 11:04 am
  6. Mark & Michael – 11:11 am

Clue: Teams had to fly to Phuket, Thailand and find a gorilla statue included in the clue. The statue was at the Phuket Zoo, but that information was not included in the clue.

Tammy talked about going to Thailand once years ago with her parents, but they wouldn’t let her go to the beach or talk to anyone. She also had to stay with her parents at all time. She was hoping to have a lot more fun this round. Mike said that they wanted to go far in the race, but they didn’t want to not enjoy themselves while they were racing. Mike asked his dad in the car if he knew any Thai. Mel said, “Mai Tai…..That wasn’t funny.” Mike agreed. Haha! Jen said that her only focus was Kisha and she hoped that she was Kisha’s only focus. I wonder how long before they start worrying about what the other teams are doing. Luke was excited about going to Thailand. Margie said that sometimes her arms get tired from talking, but she wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. Jamie said she was tired of foreign languages and all the noise. She wanted to get out of India where it was nonstop honking. Ah, she’s lovely. The brothers left with Mark saying that Phuket was known for diving so he knew they would be alright there. What if there was no diving task?

Even though all teams but the cheerleaders went to the travel agency, while the cheerleaders went to straight to the airport, everyone got on the same flight to Phuket. No drama!

TV: Week of March 29

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:27 pm

This week, I am most excited about Cupid debuting. I actually watched and loved the original when it was made with Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall a few years ago. I was sad when it went off the air. I had no idea that it was made by Rob Thomas who went on to make Veronica Mars, which I loved. I find it completely bizarre that he’s making the same show again with different actors, but since it is Rob Thomas making it,  I am willing to give it a shot.

Season Finales: Top Gear, Damages, Life on Mars, ER, Eleventh Hour

Pick of the Week

cupid

Cupid
Channel: ABC
Time: 10/9c
Starring: Bobby Cannavale, Rick Gomez, Camille Guaty, Sarah Paulson
Premieres: Tuesday, March 31
Trailer

Synopsis: A guy claims he is the Roman god ,Cupid, who has been sent to New York to bring 100 couples together, but there is a psychiatrist who begs to differ.

My Take: While I miss that Jeremy Piven will not be Cupid, I do really like Sarah Paulson. I am not the biggest fan of Bobby Cannavale, but I am willing to see if he can win me over.

Movies Opening March 27

Category: 2009 Movies,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 7:00 pm

When I first heard about Monsters vs. Aliens, I thought it was the typical kid animation film that I could ignore, and I thought the blue blob was a bit of a ripoff from the green blob in Ghostbusters. I do find the trailers have won me over. The Haunting movie looks like it could be pretty creepy or it could be like all the other horror movies that come out these days and that could make it predictable. Finally, there is a movie directed by Renny Harlin who made the blockbuster Cutthroat Island! Don’t all line up for 12 Rounds at once.

Monsters vs. Aliens
Directed: Conrad Vernon, Rob Letterman
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Seth Rogan
Trailer

Synopsis: When aliens keep invading Earth, the government brings out its hidden stash of monsters to fight back.

My Take: It doesn’t look super fabulous, but pretty amusing and cute.

9x9_fresh RT Score: 68%
RT Consensus: Though it doesn’t approach the depth of the best animated films, Monsters Vs. Aliens has enough humor and special effects to entertain moviegoers of all ages.

Amazing Race
Alright Guys, We’re at War!

I know they have people leave in the order that they arrived at the pit stop and some teams have an advantage by coming in first, but I really like it when teams pretty much start at the airports at the same time and end up on the same flight. I think it is more exciting when the race has people succeed or fail by not reading clues or doing poorly at tasks than taking a delayed flight or something out of their control. I like them to succeed and fail on their own.

Order teams left the pit stop:

  1. Margie & Luke – 12:18 am
  2. Tammy & Victor – 12:24 am
  3. Jamie & Cara – 12:30 am
  4. Mel & Mike – 1:01 am
  5. Mark & Michael – 1:02 am
  6. Kisha & Jen – 1:28 am
  7. Christie & Jodi – 3:09 am

Clue: Teams had to fly to Jaipur, India. They had to connect through Moscow. Once there, they had to take a taxi to a remote village of Duhla to find a sacred tree, Peepli Ka Pedh, and their next clue.

Luke was not thrilled about going to India. He said it wasn’t one of their top places to visit, but Margie did say it would be different. Tammy was excited since it would warm. Jamie couldn’t wait to get out of the huge jackets. Mel said that he would miss Russia when he started to think about all the people in India.  There was no airport drama since everyone went to Moscow and New Delhi, but all took the same flight from New Delhi to Jaipur.

TV: Week of March 22

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 3:20 pm

Samantha Who? is moving to Thursdays. I think the show is pretty funny, but I do believe it lasted as long as it did since it was on after Dancing With the Stars on Monday nights. I think it might not last on Thursday nights unless it turns out to be a good match up with In the Motherhood.

I don’t have any pick of the week this week since none of the shows debuting are anything I want to watch.

Season Finales: Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, Eastbound & Down, Secret Life of the American Teenager

Not My Thing

inthemotherhood

In the Motherhood
Channel: ABC
Time: 8/7c
Starring: Cheryl Hines, Megan Mullally, Jessica St. Clair, RonReaco Lee, Horatio Sanz
Premieres: Thursday, March 26
Trailer

Synopsis: Three women friends raising their kids in very different ways. The series started out on the web with many stories coming from the fanbase. The show wants to continue making storylines from real life wacky stories that viewers submit.

My Take: The trailers looks pretty amusing, but I have not read very good reviews of it.

X-Files: I Want to Believe
Directed: Chris Carter
Starring: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Xzibit, Billy Connolly

This felt like a very long episode and not one of the good ones. It would have been one of the episodes I would have watched only once with no reason to go back to watch it again. I think the main issue with it was there wasn’t much weird or supernatural about it. Well, I guess there were some things like the priest claiming to know things he shouldn’t and the weird medical experiments going on, but it was just wasn’t the same level of bizarreness that was in the series. It didn’t feel like a true X-Files case.

Movies Opening March 20

Category: 2009 Movies,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 8:04 pm

You know how some people get excited about the next big superhero film coming out?  I get excited about those too since they are usually thrill-packed action flicks, but I’m very excited this week since I’ve been waiting for the new Paul Rudd movie to come out. For those that have read my site know that I have a fascination with Paul Rudd. I have come to love him very much so I’m thrilled that he’s headlining a movie that looks very funny. Sure there is a movie coming out this week with sexy Clive Owen, but he’s no Paul Rudd. The other big movie coming out this week is one where Nicolas Cage once again keeps getting older, but his wives/girlfriends in movies keep getting younger.

Starring: Paul Rudd, Jason Segal, Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg
Trailer

Synopsis: A guy has always had girlfriends, but no real guy friends finds himself without a best man when he asks his girlfriend to marry him. He starts to go on man dates to find an actual guy friend.

My Take: In case you missed it up above, I find Paul Rudd adorable and hilarious. That’s enough to make me want to see it.

9x9_fresh RT Score: 77%
RT Consensus: I Love You, Man makes the most of its simple premise due to the heartfelt and hilarious performances of Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.

southlandtales

I had high hopes for this movie since I loved Donnie Darko, which was also directed by Richard Kelly. While watching it though, my hopes were crushed as I could not believe this was the same director. Now I wonder if he can only make one good movie, which makes me sad.

Amazing Race
She’s a Little Scared of Stick, but I think She’ll Be OK!

I love it when the season comes to the point where they have to drive stick shifts. I’ll say this every season. Why do people come on the show that do not know how to drive a stick shift? They make them drive one at least once every season. Learn it!

Order teams left the pit stop:

  1. Christie & Jodi – 12:34pm
  2. Kisha & Jen – 12:36pm
(Read below about why it wasn’t exciting enough to list the times everyone left after the first two groups)
  3. Tammy & Victor
  4. Margie & Luke
  5. Cara & Jamie
  6. Mel & Mike
  7. Mark & Michael

Clue: Teams had to make their way on foot to the train station and ride the Trans-Siberian railroad to Novosibirsk, Russia. Once there, they had to race to Punkt Tehnicheskogo Osmotra to find their next clue.

Before reading the clue, Jodi hoped they were going to go somewhere warm since it was snowing on them in Siberia. After reading it, her face fell a bit. She did ask Christie if the place they were heading would be warm. Christie said if it had that many consonants in it, it wouldn’t be warm. Haha! They headed off on foot to the train station. When Kisha and Jen started out, Kisha said they should ask someone where the train station was located. Jen said they could follow the flight attendants. Kisha didn’t want to assume they were going the right way. Jen said they could just wander around since it was beautiful out. Kisha responded, “Beautiful, my ass!” They did run up to the flight attendants and they found the Central Railway Station together.  Once at the station, they found out that the train left at 10:26pm so all the other teams would catch up to them by then.
