Movies Opening May 15

Angels & Demons does not have as bad of reviews compared to its predecessor Da Vinci Code and I believe it is for two reasons. First, Tom Hanks no longer has stupid hair. Second, it stars Ewan McGregor. That movie should be ignored though because the trailer for Big Man Japan looks so completely awesome. Everyone should watch the trailer immediately because it has super goofy monsters in it!

Synopsis: It is a prequel to the Da Vinci Code, but being packaged as a sequel. I’m sure there is a plot to it too, but I didn’t care enough to pay attention.

My Take: I had no interest in the first one so I’ll skip this one. The only thing that’ll get me to watch it is Ewan McGregor.

RT Score: 40%
RT Consensus: Angels and Demons is a fast-paced thrill ride, and an improvement on the last Dan Brown adaptation, but the storyline too often wavers between implausible and ridiculous, and does not translate effectively to the big screen.

This Is How You Lose a Million Dollars

Amazingly, no one did anything overly stupid this last leg. It was mostly just an endurance test of the body and mind with only a little dependence on taxi cabs. I do like it when their is a tough puzzle road block just before the finish line so it isn’t depending on a cab to get lost on the way to the finish line.

The order the teams left the pit stop:

Tammy & Victor – 9:15 pm
Margie & Luke – 11:24 pm
Jamie & Cara – 2:04 am

Clue: Teams flew to their final destination city, Maui, Hawaii. Once there, they had to make their way to Beach Access 118 and had to prep a pig for a luau by seasoning it and then carry it on a stick 200 yards to the pit. Then teams had to properly cover the pig with palm leaves in order to receive their next clue.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I’ll give Hugh Jackman credit for giving his all in the role. He looks great and I really appreciated the many shirtless and naked scenes in the movie. I would have been happy if that was most of the movie. Too bad it seemed like he was carrying the movie. There were other characters that came and went, and I had no idea what their names were, let alone who they really were. I would have liked more time spent on them or maybe had fewer of them in the movie to give those that were in it a chance to be an actual character. I thought by the time the third X-Men movie, there were so many characters that were shown so briefly that it became a blur of people with powers. I was excited when I heard about the Origin movies since we could spend more time with one character. I do think it did very well with the background story with Logan and Victor.

Movies Opening May 8

Who thought doing a reboot of Star Trek would be such a good idea? I thought it’d might good when J.J. Abrams was attached so I’m glad it has turned out so awesome. I think the stoner comedy Next Day Air was a wasted opportunity of a good comedy. The limited releases involve a family mystery, closeted gay Republicans, Mexican soccer-playing brothers, an alcoholic kidnapper and a biopic about Salvador Dali.

Synopsis: How the original crew of the Star Trek got together.

My Take: I love J.J. Abrams, Zachary Quinto looks so much like Spock, Chris Pine is very good looking and I find Simon Pegg hilarious. I want to see it.

RT Consensus: Star Trek reignites a classic franchise with action, humor, a strong story, and brilliant visuals, and will please traditional Trekkies and new fans alike.

Say you are racing for the chance to win a million dollars. You aren’t sure that another team is right behind you, but you do think they are pretty damn close. You are close to checking in to make it to the final three, which is your last chance to win the million dollars. What do you do? Stop to pee of course!

We had the fun time of watching the cheerleaders get disappointed all over again when the show aired the end of the last episode where they found out the leg wasn’t over yet. They were sent off to find their next clue at the Bah Hai shopping center. The cheerleaders took off and Margie & Luke checked in second with Phil before being sent off after the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders were the first to arrive at the clue box.

Movies Opening May 1

I could argue that the movies this weekend are really for the women. Women love Hugh Jackman, especially when he’s Wolverine. Then there is the latest Matthew McConaughey romantic comedy. Is it just me or does he have a new one come out every six months? The remaining wide release movie is a kid’s movie that I had never heard of before this weekend, which isn’t a good sign. The limited releases has the directorial debut of Michael Keaton, the latest from Jim Jarmusch, a foreign drama and a haunted house.
