Second Chances

This summer, I watched some shows that I never gave a fair shot the first time around. I enjoyed all of them so I found more shows to watch! Uh-oh!

Gossip Girl

This was the show I was most resistant to watch. It looked pompous and completely over the top. The critics loved the show, but I still never gave it a chance. It wasn’t until my friend, Jen, told me to watch it that I finally started watching the first season. It made me roll my eyes a bit at the beginning, but then I was hooked into the drama! I laughed at their lavish lifestyles where apparently juniors in high school spend every night in New York at clubs drinking until dawn and spend each weekend attending another ball with fancy gowns and tuxes.  I also enjoyed that they were never actually shown in classes, but outside the school. We really didn’t want to wear down the fabulousness with boring classroom scenes. I think my favorite part of the first season was Chuck’s horrible clothes that no one made a comment about ever. I couldn’t wait for him to show up in his next ridiculous outfit. The second season, I was sad that his outfits were not as terrible and almost normal. I did root for Chuck and Blair to finally get together since they are perfect for each other. I became a bit bored of  Serena and Dan getting together, breaking up, and getting together again thing so I hope they just stay away from one another. I look forward to the third season starting soon to see what other kind of havoc Blair and the group can create.

Bones

I originally gave his show a chance when it first premiered four years ago but couldn’t get past the first two episodes. Everyone was trying too hard to be quirky and the acting was too forced. It drove me crazy and I gave it up.  I caught a few episodes in reruns over the years and started watching it again in the fourth season. Everyone was much more relaxed in their characters and I could actually enjoy it instead of rolling my eyes.  This summer, I decided to watch it all from the beginning. I still found the first two episodes horrid, but pushed my way through it. It improved greatly with the third episode (if only I made it that far the first time!) and loved it. It is a semi-procedural show, but I never even care about the mystery of the episode. I watch it for the chemistry between the cast and whatever is going on in their lives as the show goes on. I wish crazy Zack was back in the show though. I also think Hodges and Angela were back together. Finally, Bones and Booth need to finally together. Someone make it happen!

How I Met Your Mother

I had reservations about the show solely because it was on CBS. I have found their sitcoms in the past pretty stale, but after reading season after season that it was funny, I started watching it last season.  Loved it! Of course, I had to go back and start watching from the beginning. It appears that Ted will finally meet the mother this season, but I don’t even care. I am enjoying the journey. I love Lily and Marshall together. I also like that Barney fell in love with Robin. Brilliant!

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I never gave this show a chance since I figured it’d be stupid. Oh, it is stupid, but also hilarious. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities, but it makes everything funnier as they get themselves into bad situations, usually because they are trying to pull off a scheme. If you like horribly politically incorrect humor, this show is for you.
