MWG: Beverly Hills Cop
Posted On October 19, 2009
My pick for October is Beverly Hills Cop. You might remember back when Eddie Murphy really was hilarious. You’ll have to concentrate very hard though because it’s been a while.
Netflix synopsis: Tough-talking Detroit cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) heads to the rarified world of Beverly Hills in his beat-up Chevy Nova to investigate a friend’s murder. But soon, he realizes he’s stumbled onto something much more complicated. Bungling rookie detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) joins the fish-out-of-water Axel and shows him the West Los Angeles ropes in director Martin Brest‘s Academy Award-nominated action comedy.

Fabulous movie! Growing up, my brother and I would watch the beginning part over and over again just to listen to Eddie Murphy laugh while flying out of the side of the semi truck in the opening scene. Every once in a while, I see Mikey in some other tv show or movie and I yell, “It’s Mikey from Beverly Hills Cop!” I think that shows how much I watched this movie since he wasn’t in it for very long.
I say lines from the movie often, such as, “We aren’t falling for the banana in the tail pipe!” I also love the very politically incorrect gay scene that Axel has when he tries to get into the fancy country club. Speaking of gay, then there is Bronson Pinchot who will make you a drink with a twist! You will love it.
Rosewood is super awesome in it with his crazy gun collection and Taggart is also hilarious in how he wants to be part of everything, but wants to play by the rules too. The only bad thing about this movie is that it spawned very sad sequels.
i love all Eddie Murphy movies. i like also the movie DAVE where he co stars with Elizabeth Banks.;*:
I do not think I have ever actually seen this whole movie at one time from start to finish! Love the hilarious 80’s absurdity comedy and all the fancy beverly hills stuff! The music was also great! I love the chase in the beginning with the huge truck and old police cars – so different from chase scenes today! Glad I watched this today, really set the mood for my Christmas decorating spree!
