Amazing Race: Crazy Hay

Amazing Race
This is the Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done in My Life

This was the episode with the crazy hay bales that might have been the cruelest road block ever in the show. I thought it was interesting how many people still in the game hadn’t actually seen the previous season that it was in. I also found it funny that those that had seen the season with the task are the ones that let their team member do the task. They knew it was hard! Nice.

The teams left the pit stop in the following order:

  1. Sam & Dan – Gay Brothers – 9:33 pm
  2. Meghan & Cheyne – Tetherball – 9:48 pm
  3. Flight Time & Big Easy – Harlem Globetrotters – 10:32 pm
  4. Gary & Matt – Pinky & the Brain – 11:08 pm
  5. Brian & Ericka – IR Couple – 1:38 am

Clue: Fly to Stockholm, Sweden. After arriving, teams had to travel by train and ferry to Tivoli Grona Lund amusement park and find the tallest ride.

Top Chef: Las Vegas
Season Finale Part 2

In past seasons, I have been able to guess some of the three finalists, but never all three. There is usually a wild card in there or someone that surprised me as the competition went along. This time, I could have picked the final three from the first episode and by the last one, I would have picked Jen as the one to be leaving. I did like her a lot in the beginning, but she seemed to have lost her way during the competition. Bryan, Kevin and Michael were consistently good the entire time so I would be thrilled to see any of them win, but was really rooting for Kevin going into it.

Movies Opening December 11

Category: 2009 Movies,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 1:52 pm

The latest Disney release looks more interesting than any other Disney movie recently, but I know I’ll ignore it like other Disney movies since I haven’t seen any in years. I don’t count Pixar as Disney. I love those and watch all of them as soon as possible. Even though I can’t really tell what A Single Man is about, it still looks interesting to me. I will want to see The Lovely Bones at some point. It makes me sad that the reviews are poor.

The Princess and the Frog
Directed: Ron Clements, John Musker
Starring: Anika Noni Rose, Terrence Howard, John Goodman, Keith David, Jim Cummings, Oprah Winfrey, Jenifer Lewis
Trailer

Synopsis: The old fairytale where the princess must kiss the frog to make him into a prince, but it has a twist.

My Take: It has the old classic look of Disney animation.

9x9_fresh RT Score: 83%
RT Consensus: The warmth of traditional Disney animation makes this occasionally lightweight fairy-tale update a lively and captivating confection for the holidays.

TV: Week of December 6

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 11:48 am

“The Closer” returns this week, but it is only for a few episodes. It is really the final three episodes from season five that TNT held off showing so that it could help be a strong lead in for its new show, “Men of a Certain Age.”  “Glee” will have its fall finale this week and will not return until April 13. This is due to the show not picking up production again until after the new year so they don’t’ have any more episodes filmed at this time. It also helps them avoid competing against the Winter Olympics.

Season Finales: The Amazing Race, The Biggest Loser, Top Chef, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League

Pick of the Week

Alice
Channel: SYFY
Time: 9/8c
Starring: Caterina Scorsone, Kathy Bates, Harry Dean Stanton, Tim Curry, Matt Frewer, Colm Meaney, Andrew-Lee Potts, Philip Winchester
Premieres: Sunday, December 6 (2-night event finishing up on Monday, December 7)
Trailer

Synopsis: A reimagining of the Lewis Caroll classic with Alice is in her twenties and has a fear of commitment that sends her through the looking glass where the characters she comes across are not like the ones in the original story.

My Take: I have not read good things about it, and I was so bored with the “Tin Man” miniseries last year that I quit watching it (it is made by the same people), but I do love the “Alice in Wonderland” story so I will give it a shot and probably hate it anyway.

Top Chef: Las Vegas
Season Finale Part 1

Here is a quick run down on the two challenges:

  • Quickfire Challenge: Create a dish that features Napa’s signature crop, the grape
  • Elimination Challenge: Cater a Crush party for 150 people

This is the episode where the chefs actually got a break between the Las Vegas challenges and these two finale episodes. In Las Vegas, they were doing challenge after challenge without a break, but they finally had some time to recuperate, not be secluded, and have a bit of a breather. That has been great for chefs in the past while others ones lost their game when they came back. I find the last part sad, so I like it when chefs are actually able to keep it together and do their best work in the finale.

Movies Opening December 4

Category: 2009 Movies,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 12:48 am

You’ve seen movies like Everybody’s Fine and Armored before. Brothers is a remake of a foreign film and the original is supposed to be much better. Then there is a vampire spoof that wasn’t filmed for critics so you know it sucks. Haha! The only thing that looks interesting is the George Clooney movie Up In the Air.

Everybody’s Fine
Directed: Kirk Jones
Starring: Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Sam Rockwell, Kate Beckinsale
Trailer

Synopsis: A widower finds that he has lost touch with his grown children after his wife has died since they don’t know how to talk to him. When they keep canceling plans to visit, he goes out to see them.

My Take: It looks pretty harmless, but the story is pretty much told in the trailer.

9x9_rotten RT Score: 46%
RT Consensus: A calm, charismatic performance from Robert De Niro nearly saves the movie, but ultimately, Everybody’s Fine has the look and feel of a stereotypical Christmas dramedy.
