Amazing Race: Sparkly Headband

Amazing Race
When the Cow Kicked Me in the Head

When it seems that your mission is to show people that you are not an idiot and an intelligent woman, one of the ways to prove your seriousness is wearing a sparkly headband, such as, the one above! Go Team Sparkly!

Big Brother were the first team to leave the pit stop at 3:21 am.

Clue: Teams had to travel to Puerto Varas, Chile. They would need to take a bus back to Santiago and then board another bus to travel over 500 miles to the town. Once there, they would drive to a lake and take a boat to Isla Margarita. On the island, they would climb to a place called Mirador to find their next clue.

Bus Station Drama

Big Brother took a cab to the bus station in town where they learned it opened at 5 am. Jeff was frustrated at losing their lead. All the other teams arrived before the first bus left. While waiting around for the bus, the lesbians decided to make an alliance with the married parents.

All teams arrived at the bus station in Santiago, but the married parents were the first in line to get the tickets to Puerto Varas. The lesbians were at the back of the bus so when they got to the line, Joe said they were holding their spots. The detectives did not agree with that, but besides disagreeing no one got into a fight. So sad! The married parents and lesbians got on a bus that left at 5:30 pm and arrived in Puerto Varas at 7 am. They bought the last four seats so that left at the next bus at 7:45 pm for the other teams. The ones that decided to purchase the tickets were the brothers, detectives, lawyer ladies and father/daughter team.

The cowboys decided to go search for a bus that left earlier in the day, which Big Brother, the models and triathlon decided to look for another bus too. The triathlon team decided to take a direct bus that left at 8:30 pm and arrived the next day at 9am. Um, that’s not earlier! The cowboys were asking around and found a guy that told them to take a bus to Temuco and find another bus to get them to Puerto Varas faster. Separately, Jeff from Big Brother read the clue again to see if it said anything about taking a bus to another city wasn’t allowed. He didn’t  see anything that said they couldn’t do that so he asked another bus guy if there was a quicker city to get to Puerto Varas from and the guy also suggested Temuco. Buying from separate places, the cowboys, Big Brother and the models all got on buses that were leaving right then at 9 am to Temuco and would get into Puerto Varas at 11pm that night. They would have an advantage unless the next task had to be done in the morning!

Those teams took off and it didn’t seem like the other teams were aware they were gone. When the married parents and lesbians got on the 5:30pm bus, they thought they were the first teams to leave. Soon after they left though, the true first bus arrived in Temuco at 6:15 pm. The models and Big Brother had tickets for a bus that left at 6:30pm, but the cowboys had one that left at 7pm. They went to see if they could get tickets. They found out that the bus left from another terminal that was 10 minutes away by taxi. The cowboys decided not to share that information with them and waited for their bus. At 6:29 pm, the other two teams decided to quit wandering and find their bus. They found out it was in another terminal and decided to take a taxi over there. They were shocked when they arrived at the other terminal and found that the bus was gone. They piled back in the taxis to go back to the other terminal to get on the bus with the cowboys. They got back to the terminals right when the bus with the cowboys on it was leaving. They completely missed seeing the bus take off though.  They ran inside to see where the cowboys were and get tickets when they realized they were gone. They missed both buses! They also found out there were no more buses to Puerto Varas for the day. They bought the first tickets they could for Puerto Varas, which was a bus that left at 1 am. They would arrive at 6:45 am. Around that time, the other teams were boarding the 7:45 and 8:30 pm buses.

The cowboys were the first team to arrive in Puerto Varas. They found the cars they needed to drive and started to head to Petrohue Hotel. They found it with no troubles, but found the path they needed to take didn’t open until 7:30 am. They got comfy in their car and slept for a few hours.  The next bus to arrive was the one with the married parents and lesbians. They took off before the models and Big Brother arrived in town.

Boat Rides

At 7:30 am, the cowboys got out of their car, with little bags covering their cowboy hats since it was really misty out and they started down the trail. They found the boats at the end of the trail, which was at the lake. They jumped in one of them and were taken across with a boat driver. The next four teams arrived at the hotel and caught a boat across. While heading to the island, the second bus from Santiago arrived with those teams getting in their cars to head to the hotel. Once again, there are teams that don’t know how to drive stick. Everyone had someone that could figure out how to do it though, but the brothers were a bit stuck. Jordan was trying to take off, but hadn’t taken the emergency brake off so the car wasn’t going anywhere. After trying a few times, he gave up and Dan got in the car, announced the e-brake had to be down, and they took off.

The last team was still on the bus when the cowboys arrived at the island and found the clue box. It was a detour.

Mean Llamas

Detour: In Llama Adoration, teams entered a field with grazing llamas. Teams had to choose a llama and dress it for a traditional festival by putting a blanket and scarf on the unruly and stubborn animal. They would get their next clue once the llama was properly adorned. In Condor Consternation, teams had to dress as birds by putting on some fake bird feet and 16-foot bird wings. Teams had to then run to the end of a pier and try to soar to their next clue, which was in the lake. It was like flugtag where nothing flies and just goes right into the water.

I love llamas and their surly ways! The cowboys decided to do the llama task so they took off in a boat. They passed the married parents and lesbians that were getting to the island. They were shocked to see a team in front of both of them. When they got to the clue box, they both decided to do the llama task. Heidi said she did not want to go in the water right then. She was too cold. While they were running back to the boats, they passed the models. The lesbians were not pleased that other teams were caught up with them. The models decided to fly.

The cowboys arrived at the llama corral and discovered many of the llamas were feisty, but they found one that came up to them that was pretty mellow. They did it quickly and talked about being the llama whisperer. They got the next clue.

Clue: Teams had to drive themselves to Onces Bellavista Farm.

They wondered if anyone knew if they were the team that was in the lead. They weren’t sure if the other teams saw it was them when they were leaving the island. The  married parents and lesbians got to the llamas. The lesbians were trying to feed one, but were sure one was going to spit. Joe picked one saying, “This one likes me.” Then, it spit at him. Awesome. Heidi started running at it with a blanket so the llama just ran away and the blanket went on the ground. The lesbians were trying to pet one to see if it was calm, but it did a little kick so they moved on to find another one. Joe got close enough to one and he put a blanket on it, but he was standing behind it. It was super fast when it kicked him in the knee and it kicked him hard.

Big Brother finally arrived at the island and the clue box. They picked the flying one, which is where the models were arriving. They got dressed up in their lovely little bird outfits, which were decorative wet suits. They both got into the flyer, one on each side, and tried to flap the wings in unison so they could take off when they got to the end of the pier. They just went straight down into the water and swam to the clue. They said the water was ice cold. They quickly swam back to land so they could continue on.

The other bus of people arrived at the island and clue box. The father/daughter team were going to fly and the detectives picked llama. Michael said Louie could calm down a pit bull so he should be fine with the llama. He said he looked like one too.

Back at the llamas, Joe was a little more wary of the crazy kicking llamas. They found one that was tired and taking a nap. They threw the blanket on its back and tied the scarf on it. It was approved so they took off. The lesbians found one that was more interested in sticking its head out of the fence than moving so it didn’t mind stuff being put on it. They got the next clue too.

The lesbians and models were on their way to the next clue box when the lawyer ladies arrived and picked the llamas. Big Brother arrived at the condor detour. They also went straight down into the water, but swam to get the clue and swam back to land. The brothers were busy being lost. The father/daughter team jumped at the condor detour when the triathlon team finally arrived in town and headed to the hotel. They knew they were last but hoped that some other teams were having troubles with the stick shift. The brothers drove down a super long road, which was most likely a private drive to someone’s house on the lake. They had to turn around near someone’s garage to go back to the main road. They couldn’t figure out how to go in reverse so they started pushing the car. WAT! Reverse is just another spot in the stick shift. I don’t understand! When they got back to the main road, they found someone that pointed them in the right direction for the hotel.

While the brothers were lost, the triathlon team didn’t gain too much ground since the brothers still found the hotel first. They realized they were probably in ninth place when they arrived. The detectives were at the llamas but didn’t have much success before the lawyers showed up. The lawyer ladies got a blanket on one of them before it ran away. The blanket stayed on so they chased it to get the scarf around its neck. They got it done before it took off again and got their next clue. The detectives were stumped at how they did it so fast when they hadn’t done anything yet. They decided to corral a llama. Louie had two branches and got a llama in the corner. Michael threw the blanket on it and then walked around the outside of the fence and tied the scarf around it while Louie held up the branches so it wouldn’t move. Nice work!

Time To Make the Donuts

The cowboys arrived at Onces Bellavista Farm to find a road block. It only said on it, “It’s time to make the Kuchen.” They had to decide who would do it from that.

Road Block: The area of Chile they were in had a lot of German immigrants. One team member would be collecting five main ingredients that were essential to a German pastry called Kuchen: flour, plate of butter, a baker’s dozen of eggs, a bowl of sugar, and milk straight from the cow. If they get the right amount of each item, the baker would give them their next clue.

Cord decided to do it. He went to the cow first and started milking it. He said it wasn’t the first cow he ever milked. He went over to the chickens next to get the eggs. He got 13 eggs since that’s a baker’s dozen. Everything else he needed was from the pantry. He was trying to figure out how to carry it all over to the baker. He decided to balance the sugar and butter on the flour while carrying a bag of eggs in one hand and the milk in the other one. He did it right so he got the next clue, which was to the pit stop!

Clue: Teams had to drive themselves back to Puerto Varas and find Gruta de la Virgen, which was a park named for the Virgin Mary. It was the pit stop for the leg of the race.

Cord did get to eat a bit of the cake before heading back out, while saying, “Don’t tell Jet I ate any of this.”. Jet asked if it was hard and Cord told him he wouldn’t believe how hard it was. Haha! Jet asked what kuchen was and Cord said he wasn’t sure, but it looked good. He said it looked like some pie and Jet started asking, “Oh man, did you eat some of the pie?” Cord just started laughing.

The cowboys were on their way to the pit stop when the married parents and lesbians showed up at the farm. Heidi and Carol decided to do it. Carol got a cow that was not happy with her and kept kicking its leg. She got kicked in the hand once. Heidi left one cow when another nearby one decided to relieve itself. The models arrived and Brent decided to do it. The married parents and lesbians finished up around the same time and were off to the pit stop. Brent was milking a cow and saying, “You smell like ass.” Brent finished up when Big Brother showed up to the road block. Jeff decided to do it. He had one angry cow that kept mooing every time he tried to get more milk.

The brothers got to the island and picked the llama detour when the triathlon team was still headed that way in a boat. They also picked the llamas. Jeff finished up and Big Brother were headed to the pit stop. Father/daughter and lawyer ladies arrived at the road block. Steve and Monique decided to do it. The detectives drove right past the road block since they apparently can’t read signs. Michael even asked Louie if he thought that was it, but he said to keep going. Meanwhile, Steve was near the cow saying, “I hope I don’t grab the wrong thing.” Does he realize cows are girls? Monique’s cow was a bit jumpy and knocked her over at one point.

The brothers got off their boat to head to the llamas. Jordan said he thought he had a splinter in his butt. Are his pants mesh? How does that work? The brothers were goofing around with the llama until the triathlon team arrived. Then they tossed a blanket on a llama and tied the scarf quickly before it kicked them. Shannon lassoed a baby llama with the scarf and pulled it close to Jody could throw the scarf on it.

Pit Stop

The cowboys arrived at the pit stop and checked in with Phil in first place. As the winners, they each won a sailboat. The married parents and lesbians arrived next at the pit stop around the same time. The married parents hustled to the mat a bit sooner. They both looked a bit disappointed that they weren’t first.

Back at the road block, Monique finished up a bit quicker than Steve did, but both of those teams were headed to the pit stop. The detectives were still driving in the wrong direction. Michael said that if they didn’t see it by the time they reached the city, they would ask for better directions. It’s right off the road that you were on! It isn’t hiding. Louie said he felt pretty good since he thought there were a couple of teams behind them. Not for long, the way you are going. What happened to them thinking they were going to come in first place every leg? The brothers found it and Jordan decided to do it after he guessed it had to do with food.

Over at the pit stop, the models checked in with Phil in fourth place. When he told them their place, Caite just stared blankly at him. I have no idea if she was surprised or happy. Brent tried to high-five her, but she was too busy staring blankly at Phil. Big Brother were driving around somewhere. Jeff would ask, “Are we in San Juan?” and Jordan would reply, “San Jose.” He would ask again, “San Juan?” and she would say, “Jose. H-O-S-E.” Awesome team!

Jordan milked his cow and right when he was about to leave, the cow took a huge dump. He said, “Bessie, if you had done that while I was milking you, we would have not been friends.” The detectives were in Puerto Varas, wondering where the road block was while the triathlon team arrived at the road block. Jody decided to do it. Jordan finished the road block. The detectives were getting out of their car to get some directions. Big Brother couldn’t find the pit stop. Big Brother found the detectives wandering and asked them for directions, but the detectives said they were looking for the road block. Jeff told them it was back the way they came. They had drove 19 miles past it. They were not pleased at the time they wasted. They started to head back. The lawyers arrived at the pit stop next in fifth place. Shawne said it was harder than anything she could have imagined. Jeff finally noticed the church so Big Brother checked in with Phil in sixth place.

The detectives arrived at the road block and were thrilled there was another team there still. Jody seemed to have done all the other tasks before milking the cow. Michael had decided to do the road block. He went to the kitchen first, which is where he was supposed to deliver all the items. He slipped right onto his butt and scared the clue ladies. Jody was almost done milking the cow when it kicked her it the head. Ow! She didn’t complain or whine. She just got another cup and started again, but with a different cow. It acted like it was going to kick too. Michael was busy scaring chickens over in the coop. He couldn’t find the pantry, even though the farm didn’t look that big.

Back at the pit stop, father/daughter checked in with Phil for seventh place. Jody was slowly milking her cow when Michael came in and milked his cow in about two seconds. Then he went off looking for the pantry again. The brothers checked in with Phil in eighth place. They looked surprised that there were two teams behind them. Jody finally got all her milk. Michael finally found the pantry. He got his stuff to the kitchen first. He also grabbed a piece of the cake to bring to Louie. I don’t think any other teams shared with their partners. They were off to the pit stop. Jody turned in all her stuff to the kitchen, brought a piece of cake to Shannon, and then they were off to the pit stop.

They both arrived to the general area at the same time, but it was a race to the mat. The detectives arrived there first for ninth place. The triathlon team arrived in last place and were eliminated. I feel bad that Jody was eliminated after being kicked in the head!

Order teams arrived at the pit stop:
