Amazing Race: Nom Nom Nom

Amazing Race

If I was running the race, I might have just stayed with the tortoise watching it eat. They are hilarious when they eat!

The detectives were the first team to leave the pit stop at 12:35 am. The models were the last team to leave the pit stop at 4:36 am.

Clue: Teams had to fly to the island of The Seychelles, a chain of 115 island in the Indian Ocean. Once on the island, teams would have to search for a kiosk to grab a number and their next clue.

Due to the remote location of the island, all teams would be flying on the same flight. No airplane drama! When the detectives and cowboys arrived at the airport, they decided to get something to eat in the airport before checking into the flight. The models checked in immediately and picked seats at the front of the plane. Father/daughter team got row 10, the brothers got row 15 and the lesbians got row 25.  No clue what the detectives and cowboys got, but probably near the back of the plane.

The Seychelles

It seemed to pay off for the models since they were the first team to get to the kiosk once they got off the plane. They picked up their next clue.

Clue: Teams would fly by helicopter to the island of La Digue. The first three teams would go in the first helicopters and the last three would be in the next group of helicopters that left one hour later. Once they arrived, they would find their next clue.

Steve & Allie and the brothers were the next two teams to go on the first helicopters. That left the lesbians, detectives and cowboys on the second group of helicopters. While the second groups were waiting, Carol was complaining that the strongest teams were in fourth, fifth and sixth place. She said that the models got lucky. Actually, I think they were smart when they picked their seats before anyone else and got the closest to the front of the plane. Also, I think the detectives and cowboys are strong teams, but I don’t view the lesbians as a strong team. They don’t seem to work all that well together.

Slow Animals

The models were the first group to land and go the next clue first, which was a detour.

Detour: In Turtle Toddle, teams had to use a banana to lure a 100-year-old tortoise across a lawn to a marker. Then the team has to pick up a bunch of bananas and walk 1.5 miles to a fruit merchant who will give them their next clue. In Ox Trot, teams had to bring a cart to  a clearing and load it up with coconuts. After they loaded all the coconuts, they had an ox handler attach an ox to the cart and deliver it all to the harbor where the fruit merchant will give them their next clue.

The models decided to go with the ox. They were loading up coconuts when Steve & Allie arrived. Steve said he never met an ox he could trust and turtles were cool so they were going with the tortoise one. When they got there, Steve dropped the one banana into the pen with the tortoise. Allie was telling him to pick it up since it was the only banana they had. While they were figuring that out, the brothers arrived on the island. They went with the ox.

While loading up all the coconuts, one of Caite’s went flying over the other side. She didn’t notice it, but they didn’t have all their cargo with them to turn in. They got their ox loaded up and they took off with their one lone coconut left behind. The brothers arrived in the ox area right when the models were leaving. Steve had finally retrieved the banana and Allie was the one getting the tortoise to move across the lawn. Brent and Caite were calling each other dummy since they apparently did not have ox herding skills.

Allie got her cruising tortoise to move across the finish line so it got a banana as a reward and they went to pick up their banana bunches for their walk. They took off with their bananas, but left their backpacks behind. Take them with you people! Never assume the next clue will lead you back to where you were. It rarely does! The brothers were about halfway done loading up their cart while the models had a ox that didn’t feel like moving anymore. While they were trying to encourage it to go, Steve & Allie passed them by with their bananas.

Brent said he was worried about the other task being faster and passing them with their ox. They did finally get it moving again. Steve & Allie were still walking to the harbor when the brothers finally finished up with their coconuts. They realized a few times when they would throw the coconuts into the cart, that one would bounce out so they made sure they had all the ones they were supposed to in their cart.

When they were getting their ox hooked up, the detectives were landing, they decided to do the ox task. The brothers were getting ready to go and the ox decided that it needed to poop. Dan was grossed out since it was all happening inches away from his legs. They were pleased with the ox once he started moving since he moved fairly quickly. They decided to name their ox, Box, after their father who owns a packaging company. The lesbians landed and decided to go with the tortoise detour.

The detectives arrived at the coconuts around the time that the cowboys were landing. They decided to go with the ox detour.  The lesbians got to the tortoise and picked the one that seemed most active. It was hard to tell. They picked one and he did not seem interested in the banana. They could not switch tortoises once they opened up the gate. The cowboys arrived at the coconuts and started loading up while the detectives were about halfway done. The detectives noticed that some coconuts had gone bouncing out when they threw them. The cowboys thought the task was similar to loading feed instead of the coconuts, but they didn’t know they were coconuts. They called them “whatever these things are.”

Treasure Hunting

Steve & Allie arrived at the fruit merchant and got their next clue.

Clue: Teams had to take a boat to St. Pierre Island where the boat captain would give them their next clue.

They had to swim out a bit to get on the boat, but got on it while the models were almost to the harbor. The brothers were right behind them and passed them when their ox decided to stop again. The brothers got the next clue. While they were reading it, the models turned in their cart. The guy was telling them it was not enough coconuts. They were both saying they had loaded up the entire pile. Brent was saying he quit since he didn’t understand how they had fewer coconuts than the brothers. While they were figuring out what happened, the brothers were getting ready to swim to a boat.

Steve & Allie’s boat just took off when Allie asked why the brothers had their backpacks. They had them because they brought them with them!  Steve said their backpacks were gone, but they did have their money and passports with them. Allie said she wanted her backpack. Steve asked her if she wanted to go back for it.  She decided to not do it. She would just have to live without her makeup and brush. Steve said she didn’t need any of it. She was cute enough without it. She said it would make them faster from this point on.

The brothers climbed into their boat and took off. Brent finally quit having a hissy fit and got back into his cart with the ox to head back to try to find the missing cargo. He said that maybe one fell out. It did, but all the way back where you started! Caite said she didn’t want to play anymore. Caite was saying it was unfair. You did it to yourself! The detectives were done and taking off on their ox, making sure they had all their coconuts. The cowboys were about halfway done. Brandy finally got the tortoise to come out of its pen to start “racing”. As soon as he came out,  he turned and started going in the wrong direction. Oops!

Steve & Allie got out to a buoy with a marker on it so the boat stopped. They were handed a blue and some goggles. It was a road block.

Road Block: Teams had to search underwater for a submerged case of seven bottles. They would have to figure out how to untie them and then bring one of the bottles up to the surface. Once they get to the surface, the team members would work together to assemble a map from the contents of the bottle. The map would lead them on a path to the pit stop.

Steve decided to do it. He was getting ready to jump in while the lesbians gave up on their wayward tortoise and went over to the ox detour.  Steve got to the bottles, got it untied and back up to the surface quickly. He climbed aboard the boat and they headed back towards the shore. The brothers arrived at the buoy around that time. Jordon decided to do it. Dan said that Jordan was a better swimmer. He could do it but didn’t have the best confidence in doing it. Jordan got down to the bottles, but couldn’t get it untied until he had to go up and take a breath. Dan told him to get to it and Jordon told him to hold on since it was deep. When he dove back down, Dan read the clue again that said “Be ready to take a deep breath.” He got it untied on the second dive down but dropped it when he was going back up. He got another breath and then got the bottle on this third trip down.

The detectives passed by the models and asked them if they were lost. The models explained they didn’t have enough coconuts. Brent still didn’t know where they went wrong. Michael said that they possibly dropped a few and they hoped they didn’t make the same mistake.  They got back to the coconut area and there was a guy standing there pointing to the one missed coconut. Caite once again thought it was unfair while they started going again.

The cowboys were almost done loading up when the lesbians arrived to start loading coconuts into the cart. The lesbians saw the models leaving and said, “They probably made a mistake somewhere. Duh!!!” Classy. The cowboys thought they were done and said to make sure none fell out when one was not in the cart.  They asked the guy what their bull’s name was and were told it was Red Bull. They left and said that at least they didn’t drop any. Oh, but you did!

The lesbians realized they were in last place as they started loading up their cart. Brandy threw a coconut and hit Carol by mistake. Ouch!

Pit Stop

Steve & Allie took the boat as far as it could go before they had to jump out and swim the rest of the way.  When they got on shore, they took the map out of the bottle and started trying to put it together. They had built some of it when Steve wanted to go while Allie told him to hold off until they were done. The brothers jumped off the boat and started swimming. Steve & Allie finished up the map and started running where they thought they had to go. Allie said she wasn’t feeling well and a little faint. They did find the pit stop and Phil. As the first team to check in, they won some prizes from 7-Up for now and later. Now, they got to dine ocean side and then get massages. After the race, they both got $7000 and all the 7-Up they could drink. I would like that prize. They said it was worth leaving their backpacks behind to get that prize.  The brothers put their map together and found Phil for a second place finish.

The detectives were trying to coach their ox along while Michael said, “The ox is saying, ‘Why do I have to pull you two fat bastards? Why can’t I get the two skinny girls? Why do I have to pull you?'” They pulled up to the fruit merchant and got their next clue. They had all their coconuts! They headed down to the beach while Brent was happy that at least some other teams were behind them. Cowboys wondered what happened to the models. They figured they must have left some coconuts behind. Their ox wanted to pass the models’ ox.

The lesbians were almost done. They were checking to see if any coconuts had fallen off the side and missed that one had and it was right near the wheel out of the line of sight of where Brandy was checking. The cowboys passed the models and then the models passed the cowboys while banging into them a bit. They got their clue. The cowboys found out they didn’t load all their coconuts so they were getting ready to go back.  The cowboys didn’t agree that they left any coconuts, but they started heading back saying that it was “b.s.” The lesbians finished up and took off, missing the coconut that they left behind. They were saying that they had to catch up since someone had to make a mistake somewhere.

The detectives took forever to remove their shirts for swimming so they were just getting into the water when the models got there so they both got into their boats around the same time, taking off for the treasure. The cowboys passed the lesbians while they were heading back. The lesbians said that it bode well for them that they had missed one. The cowboys got their one missing coconut and started to head back when the lesbians arrived at the fruit merchant and were told they missed a coconut too.  They didn’t believe him either and said they had loaded the entire pile, but they started to head back.  Carol started to blame Brandy saying that when she threw some in, she must have thrown some over the side.  Then Carol said she wasn’t placing the blame on Brandy even though she just did.

The models got to the road block and Brent did it. He got the bottle right away. The detectives were stuck with a slow boat so they were still pulling up by the time Brent was climbing back into the boat. Michael decided to do it. When Michael was climbing back into the boat, he handed the bottle to Louie who managed to drop it in the boat. They decided not to touch it until they were closer to show and not open up the map until they got to shore like they were supposed to do.

The lesbians passed the cowboys. After seeing them, Carol said she couldn’t believe they missed or dropped one. The cowboys got their next clue after dropping off the coconuts and for the first time changed into bathing trunks from their jeans since swimming in jeans would not work for them.  They climbed on the boat and took off around the time that the lesbians were picking up their coconut and thinking they were in last place.  The models and detectives were swimming towards the shore. Louie was very slow at swimming.

The cowboys got to the road block and Cord decided to do it. He did it quickly and they started heading back to shore. Jet tried to hand the bottle off to the boat guy. No, you need to keep it! The lesbians got to the fruit merchant and got their clue this time. They were headed out to the road block while the models had made it ashore and were putting together their map. The detectives got on shore and both teams worked together to build the map and head to the pit stop. Brent said they didn’t want the detectives kicked out. They wanted other teams kicked out.  They finished up and were looking for the pit stop.

The cowboys were headed back to shore still and were excited the lesbians were still behind them. The lesbians got the road block and Brandy did it. She was climbing back into the boat when the models and detectives checked in with Phil at the pit stop for third and fourth place.  Phil was asking both teams who they wanted to be out next. They both said the lesbians. The detectives said they were negative people and they didn’t want that on the race. They wanted the final three to be them, the models and the cowboys. Caite agreed saying the lesbians were mean to her so she didn’t want them around. Brent said that it was pretty “anonymous” among the teams. One of the detectives corrected him by saying he meant “unanimous”. Oh boy.

As suspected, the cowboys jumped off the boat and started swimming to shore without the bottle. They got to shore and found the pit stop. Phil told them they were the fifth team. He asked them how they found the pit stop. They said they felt the pit stop was in that direction.  Phil told them that they needed to bring the bottle to shore and then bring the contents to the pit stop before he had to check them in. They needed to head back out to the boat to get it!

They just turned around and headed back to shore. They saw their boat about 300 yards from the beach and they started swimming. They saw the lesbians boat come up. The lesbians started swimming around the time the cowboys got to their boat. They got their bottle and started heading back. The lesbians were on shore making their map. The lesbians were wandering around trying to find the pit stop by the time the cowboys got on the beach. The lesbians made it to the pit stop before the cowboys. They had no idea that they had passed the cowboys. They checked in with Phil for fifth place. Phil told the cowboys that they were in last place, but it was a non-elimination leg so they were saved! They would have to complete an extra task in the next episode that no one else would have to complete.

Questions

  1. Were you glad the cowboys were saved with a non-elimination leg?
  2. Do you think it is unanimous among the teams that they want the lesbians to go? I really only thought the models didn’t like them.
  3. What do you think about Caite thinking it was unfair about the one lost coconut, even after she found it left behind? The cowboys and lesbians changed their tune once they saw the evidence of the abandoned coconut.
