Amazing Race They Don’t Call It the Amazing Race for Nothin’!
Physical comedy is excellent. It should be mean to laugh at the person getting hit in the face with the watermelon but she was okay and it was awesome to watch! I love this show.
Tons of shows premiering tonight since premiere week seemed to start last Monday so this is the first Sunday that we have run into since then.
Pick of the Week
Dexter
Channel: SHO
Time: 9/8c
Starring: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Velez, David Zayas, James Remar Premieres: Sunday, September 26 Trailer
Synopsis: Dexter has to deal with Rita’s death and his guilty conscience while some in the police department suspect him as the killer.
My Take: Just when you think the show is going to get stale, it goes off in another unexpected direction.
It seems to be another sad week at the box office. There are some big names in the movies being released, but they don’t seem to be well reviewed.
Nationwide Releases
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps You Again Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Directed: Oliver Stone Starring: Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Carey Mulligan, Susan Sarandon, Frank Langella Trailer
Synopsis: Gordon Gecko gets out of jail and finds that a young man wants to marry his daughter, who can’t stand her father, and be his protege.
My Take: I finally got around to watching the original, but not sure why there needs to be a sequel.
RT Score: 55% RT Consensus: It’s more entertaining than many sequels, but with Oliver Stone directing, a terrific cast, and a timely storyline that picks up where the original left off, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps should be better.
When I first saw the trailer for The Town, I thought I had already seen the entire movie, but I guess there is much more. Critics seem to like it and I guess Ben Affleck is much better when he’s directing than acting in other movies. I heard that Catfish created quite a buzz when it was shown at Sundance earlier this year. People loved it, but not everyone believed it was a documentary. I didn’t think it was one when I watched the trailer, so that’s news to me!
Nationwide Releases
The Town Easy A Alpha and Omega Devil
The Town Directed: Ben Affleck Starring: Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwaite, Chris Cooper Trailer
Synopsis: One of the guys in a bank robbing team decides to start dating the hostage, which angers the other guys in the crew since they think she can identify them even though they were wearing masks.
My Take: I thought the entire movie was shown in the trailer, but I guess that is just the set up and there’s much more. With the critic praise, I’m willing to give it a try.
RT Score: 95% RT Consensus: Tense, smartly written, and wonderfully cast, The Town proves that Ben Affleck has rediscovered his muse — and that he’s a director to be reckoned with.
Only one major movie came out this week. Why? This is the short death period between summer being over and the Oscar movies start up.
Nationwide Releases
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Resident Evil: Afterlife Directed: Paul W.S. Anderson Starring: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, Wentworth Miller, Kacey Barnfield Trailer
Synopsis: There is more fighting and this time with another girl joining in the fighting.
My Take: There was no semblance of a plot in the trailer, just about it having super awesome 3D.
RT Score: 23% RT Consensus: As dim-witted and lifeless as its undead antagonists, Resident Evil: Afterlife is a wholly unnecessary addition to the franchise.
CW is the first network to get a head start on Fall TV with two of their returning shows (Vampire Diaries, America’s Next Top Model) leading into their two new shows (Nikita, Hellcats). FX is the other network with one new show this week (Terriers) and one returning show (Sons of Anarchy).
A lot of cable summer shows are wrapping up their seasons. White Collar has its summer finale on Tuesday. It will return in January to finish out the rest of the second season. Louie finishes its first season on Tuesday too. It has been renewed for a second season. On Wednesday, Psych finishes its summer finale, but it will return in November. On Friday, Eureka will finish its fourth season.
Pick of the Week
Vampire Diaries
Channel: CW
Time: 8/7c
Starring: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Steven R. McQueen, Sara Canning, Katerina Graham, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Kayla Ewell, Michael Trevino, Matt Davis Premieres: Thursday, September 9 Trailer
Synopsis: Last season, Damon finally gave into his desires and kissed Elena, but it wasn’t her, it was Katherine! Now everyone will know he was trying to kiss Elena and they have to deal with crazy Katherine.
My Take: The show started off cheesy and slow last season, but then picked up steam after Damon appeared in town. Now it is total crazy fun times.
The Machete looks like awesomely trashy fun for a three-day weekend. I think Going the Distance actually looks like a romantic comedy that I could actually stand to watch.
Nationwide Releases
Machete The American Going the Distance
Machete Directed: Robert Rodriguez, Ethan Maniquis Starring: Danny Trejo, Steven Segal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro Trailer
Synopsis: They actually made a movie out of one of the joke trailers for Grindhouse.
My Take: It looks ridiculously awesome.
RT Score: 73% RT Consensus:Machete is messy, violent, shallow, and tasteless — and that’s precisely the point of one of the summer’s most cartoonishly enjoyable films.
Here’s a breakdown of the shows that will premiere on CW this fall and where they will show up on the schedule. Below the table is some more information about the new shows.
