Amazing Race: OMG Bunnies!

This was an entertaining leg where teams actually used the U-Turn correctly, got to dress in funny outfits while dancing, and race bunnies. What’s not to love?

The teams left Africa to headed to Copenhagen. They were warned another double U-Turn was on the way. Hopefully this time they will use it more wisely! When the Control Freaks started out, they made the comment that first place was stolen from them. No, it wasn’t. You were dumb and didn’t use the advantages that the race gave you and it backfired.

Airport Fun Times

In the clue, teams were told they were all on the same flight that would land the next morning at 8:30 am in Copenhagen, but if they could find a better flight, they could purchase one. Big hint! All teams tried to do this except the NFL team. Even though they have been in the back of  the pack most of the race, they didn’t try to get a better flight. They just decided to spend many hours in the airport and it took them forever to realize that no one was getting on the flight with them. Everyone else got on an earlier flight together except for Laurence and Zac who managed to find the earliest flight that arrived at 8:30 pm that night. The Control Freak team was trying to get information out of them, but they weren’t sharing. It was an awesomely awkward conversation.

Slot Doesn’t Mean Casino?

Even after the big leads over the NFL team, the racers all found themselves bunched up again since the bell tower they were supposed to climb in Copenhagen didn’t open until 7:30 am. That was still earlier than when the NFL team would arrive at the airport. The teams raced to the top of the bell tower where they had to figure out where to go next. There was one flag that said “Borg Slot” and then on top of another building there were people that were laying out another banner with “Fredericks” on it. Together, it was the name of the castle they were headed to next. The banner was harder to see since people were rolling it out and rolling it back up again so teams had to be on the right side of the bell tower at the right time to see it. This did not cause any teams any problems except the boring dating couple. They only got the “Borg Slot” part and then looked at an information sign they were standing next to and chose a random location to run off. Later on when they realized they were at a restaurant and not at the next clue location, this helped cut the lead time down between them and the NFL team.

Fancypants Dancing

Once teams reached the castle, they found a road block. They had to dress up in Renaissance period outfits, including makeup for everyone, and had to learn three dance routines. Once they successfully completed them, they got their next clue. The Control Freaks and Zac & Laurence got there first. Ernie got the hang of it pretty quickly while Zac struggled a lot. The farmers and snowboarders showed up next. Cathi was having a fun time and Andy was so good at it, they asked if he had done it before. Those teams finished up and left while Zac continued to try get the routines down. He finally finished when the boring dating couple showed up. Sandy was dancing while Zac & Laurence left. I was thinking really good things about Laurence since he was being pretty encouraging towards Zac and felt bad that he having a hard time with it, but then he told the camera with Zac standing next to him, “It would have taken me a while, but I probably would have landed it a bit quicker.” Oh what an ass!

The boring couple finish up their dancing when the NFL team arrives. They were so delayed because Marcus refused to ask for directions when they were lost in the city. They ended up in the countryside lost and finally decided to ask for directions by pulling over on a highway and then standing in the middle of it to get directions. Amazingly, someone stopped to help them.

Bunny Jumping!

After dancing, the teams were at a farm in the country (probably not too far from where the NFL team got lost). They got to choose between churning butter and forming it into nice (not sloppy!) sticks or making trained bunnies race on an obstacle course.  While heading to this detour, the boring dating couple attempting to be somewhat exciting with getting lost. You knew this would happen since Sandy declared she knew exactly where they were headed while pointing at her map. Then much later declared they were headed the wrong way. This led to a lot of under the breath muttering and heavy sighing from Jeremy. This did not make them more entertaining though. They were still boring.

Shockingly, many teams did not automatically choose the bunny detour. I don’t think I would care if it made me last, running an obstacle course with bunnies is hilarious! Control Freak team said that after the sheep incident, they were not working with any more animals. Then Cindy freaked out when she saw a goat. Yes, goats are scary. They went to churn butter. Later on the farmers joined them making butter. Jim asked if they get to eat it at the end. Cindy responded, “I don’t think you want to eat my sweaty ass butter.”

After the Control Freak team finished the detour, they found the Double U-Turn. This time they decided to actually use it. They picked the farmers since they knew they were right behind them. When the farmers came out, they were upset that they were picked! Really? I don’t get why anyone gets upset at someone picking them. It isn’t personal. I would just be annoyed that I had to do the other task. In this case, there is no need to be upset since it is bunnies! The farmers did get to pick who to U-Turn before they had to do their other detour. They picked Zac & Laurence. I was confused why they didn’t pick the snowboarders since they had just arrived when the farmers were finishing, but maybe they thought the snowboarders would still get ahead of them so they picked someone that they thought were right behind them. The snowboarders also picked the butter task. Stupid teams!

While teams were avoiding the bunnies, the farmers did it since they had no choice. Then they learned that it was an excellent task! They had to set up the obstacle course and then run alongside the bunnies while they jumped over and didn’t knock anything down. Jim went first and his bunny, Hopper, kept knocking things over and getting tired. He got a new bunny, Speckles, who was super serious about jumping. He made no mistakes! They were able to get finished with that detour before the snowboarders were done with the butter so it was really the faster detour option. When the snowboarders finished the butter, Tommy hit Andy with some butter. Andy responded, “Oh that tastes good!”

Laurence and Zac arrived and picked the butter. The NFL were right behind then and picked the bunnies. About time someone picked them first! Marcus freaking loved the bunnies. He picked one that was feisty. He was cheering it on the entire way and was very excited by the entire process. They finished up and were on their way by the time the father/son team arrived to do their second detour. When the father/son team were ready, they also picked Speckles! That bunny is great at the task so they finished in no time. Laurence said, “This one is on steroids, I can tell.” When they were about halfway done with the bunny task, the boring dating couple finally found the detour and started on the butter. That meant that the boring dating couple were the last team to leave the detour towards the pit stop.

Pit Stop

The Control Freak team actually made it to the pit stop in first place and won a trip to Fiji. The farmers were the second team to arrive with the snowboarders right behind them in third. The NFL team checked into the pit stop in fourth place. Then it was a chance for the boring dating couple to finally quit boring us! Unfortunately, the father/son team drove in the wrong direction for a while and then got stuck in traffic. By the time, they got themselves straightened out, the boring dating couple had reached the pit stop, leaving Laurence and Zac in last place. They were eliminated.

Questions

  1. What did you think about Laurence’s comments towards his son? And how is Zac so calm?
  2. Could you believe that not everyone chose to race bunnies immediately?
  3. What did you think about the U-Turn for this leg? Should other teams have been picked? What do you think about the farmers’ reaction to it?
