Amazing Race: Lies & Blindness

While we were introduced to the teams on the race, the golf twin sisters stated that people were going to underestimate them, which is what half the all girl teams say when they come on the Amazing Race. They also said there would be no crying. Well, when they became blind while trying to find Phil, even though he was right in front of them, they started to cry when they realized their stupidity. Thus, leading to an episode of lies and blindness.

The episode began with the 11 teams in Santa Barbara, California where there were 100 miniature hot air balloons tied to the ground with only 11 clues in them. Phil set the teams loose to find their clues which sent them to Santa Barbara, Argentina. The twin sisters were the last ones to find their clue, but don’t worry, they caught up. We also learned that one of the Kentucky team guys gets car sick. Gross! I don’t know how that is going to work on the race. Also, the first instance of tears on the race came from the clowns. They could not find one of the clues and started crying while saying it was the “tears of a clown.”  Oh clowns, you disturb me.

The roadblock for the teams had one team member pick who was good at directions while they were at an airfield. This led most teams to think that the person doing the roadblock would be jumping from a plane. Wrong! The person that was doing the roadblock had to find the other team member after they landed from  jumping out of a plane. They were given a map with an x to mark the spot.

I believe it was one of the gun girls that said her uterus was in her throat after she jumped. One of the Daisy Duke girls was afraid of heights so she was not happy that she had to jump. She freaked out and was the last one to go, but she did it. While searching for the spot, one of the Guido guys couldn’t drive a stick so he grinded the gears a lot and it took him a while to get to his teammate. One of the golf twin sisters drove off the road and got stuck in the sand. She had to flag someone down to help pull her out, which put them in last place again.

After the roadblock, the teams arrived at a task that had them make 120 empanadas. There were two different kinds, each with its own crimping style. The border agents were classy. First, they said they were like Chef Boyardee making the empanadas. Then, when the judge said they didn’t crimp correctly, one of them called her the “empanada nazi.” When Kentucky showed up, one of them said it was his first time making a “pinata.” He really didn’t know what they were called.

At the pit stop, Rachel & Dave came in first. They won the express pass. The rest of the pit stop wasn’t very exciting until the end when it was down to just the Guidos and golf girls making empanadas. The golf girls realized that everyone else had their bags, but them, so after they finished, they had to go pay their taxi and get their bags. Then they were running around the place looking for the pit stop. They ran out of a building into a lawn that had Phil at the other end. He wasn’t that far away. Everyone else that ran out saw him, but they looked around, they saw nothing so they ran in another direction. Phil looked confused. The Guidos showed up and found Phil easily, like everyone else did, and were still in the race. The golf girls finally found Phil and couldn’t really explain why they couldn’t see him. Phil kept asking since he was so baffled by them. Then they started crying…and were eliminated.

Questions

  1. Could the golf girls not see Phil because he was not a golf ball? Was he not white enough? If he didn’t have a tan could they have found him in the grass?
  2. Did the episode seem a little rushed to you? There didn’t seem to be much to recap since there didn’t seem to be enough time to see much.
  3. Pick who you think will be in the final three now and we can see if you are right down the road!
