Amazing Race: Ox Poop Situation

oxpoopsituation

In another episode from last season, it was down to the final four teams while they were in the Philippines. They had to do a task that was the same as one done during the fifth season of the Amazing Race, which consisted of guiding a water ox through rice fields to find a clue. Teams soon learned that it wasn’t just mud you were trudging through, but also ox poop. When one team was worried about being the last team to get to this task, Steve said, “It doesn’t matter man. Everyone is going to be gooping around in that shit soon. Dreams are going to be crushed today.” Continue on to see what else Amy, Steve and I said in this 10th episode.

When the episode started, we were reminded of the scientists being annoying with their yelling while getting a massage in the last leg so both Steve and I chose them to go home at the end of the leg. Amy picked the wrestlers just to be different. Only four teams remain at this point too. We should have known it would be a non-elimination leg since it was so close to the end, but we weren’t sure if one of the non-elimination legs were gone because the Save was in the race. It wasn’t used though, so….that’s too much thinking, lets just move on.

The teams learned they were going to the Philippines. The wrestlers talked about being amazed they had gotten that far since they aren’t the smartest. I said, “True story.” Then I immediately laughed at Robbie asking a travel agent to tell him what 19:25 was in American time. The dentists talked about they were ready to break the other teams’ spirits so Amy said, “That is shitty.”

The dentists were so high and mighty about being better than the other teams, but then they ended up on a flight that came in after all the other teams, even though they were the third team to leave the mat. The flight was sold out by the time they got to the airport. It ended up not mattering since all the teams arrived in Manila between 11pm and midnight, but they couldn’t get the clue from the flower vendor until 6:30 AM. When the dentists saw the sign, they thanked Jesus. I said, “Yes, Jesus made that decision.” Amy said, “He is really overworked during The Amazing Race seasons.”

jeepneyspaz

The next morning, teams learned they had to take a jeepney, which was like a communal taxi to another location. Maya was super excited to be part of normal Filipino culture. While it is good that she wants to immerse herself in what everyone does there on a daily basis, she was still being too much of a spaz in the jeepney by waving her arms around, yelling, “They need to bring jeepneys to the States! I love it! I love it!” Even Derpy wanted her to calm down.

Meanwhile, the dentists were crying because they saw kids sitting in street where they could be run over, some of them not wearing clothes. Misti was saying they take so much for granted and made her so grateful for her life. I was thinking that the Filipino people were like “What? That’s where my kid sits and he doesn’t like wearing clothes. Leave me alone!”

The teams picked up their next clue, which was a detour. They had to pick between being a local fisherman or assembling a side car. Steve said, “Guess which one we would be doing,” since it would be the motorcycle one. In the fishing one, teams had to wade out in chest-deep bay of water to a fishing boat with a bucket. They had to fill that bucket with fish before wading back and fill three big tubs with that fish on shore. In the sidecar one, teams would have to properly assemble and mount a sidecar onto a motorcycle.

Everyone picked the sidecar one, except the wrestlers who picked the fish. They had to take a sidecar to either detour to get there, but the scientists did not read their clue well enough and were walking to the detour. All the teams passed them and the surfers even yelled out, “Read the clue!” but the scientists just looked confused by everyone going by them in vehicles while they walked.

Brooke had been freaking out about the smells in the Philippines ever since they landed. As they pulled up to the fish task, Brooke was loudly proclaiming, “Oh this smell is quite pleasant!” I asked, “Why would she choose the fish task if she has smell issues?” Then, as if they had heard me, said they decided they would always choose a physical challenge over another one since that is where their strength lies. Well, at least they have a plan. When they got back to shore, they had to move the fish from their bucket into a bigger bucket, but they had to use their hands. Rob did not like this idea. He screamed and picked up one fish at a time while Brooke picked up huge handfuls of them. He said he didn’t like touching the slime or animals in general since they are gross. Amy said, “He’s possibly not the manliest man.”

dentistsidecar

At the sidecar detour, Mr. Dentist was talking about how he was good at putting things together since has had to put a lot of toys together. A little later, Mr. Dentist said they were getting it done and then the sidecar and motorcycle fell over. Good job! Adam said he loved to take mechanical things apart and put them back together. While all the teams were working on assembling, Steve was offering advice on what teams were missing. When the dentists finished first and had a judge come over, he said it was not done correctly but would not tell them why. If only they could hear Steve. Maya made a comment about how they were blessed and the lord was on their side with that detour option. Derpy said that god didn’t care which sidecar they decided to assemble. Go Derpy!

The wrestlers did finish the detour before any other team. It seemed like the surfers finished soon after them. I guess Adam was really mechanical like he said. After being judged at least three times, Mr. Dentist finally figured out that he hadn’t connected one of the shocks. Of course, Mrs. Dentist hadn’t noticed it either. She just looked nervously at the motorcycle and sidecar but never tried to compare what they were building with the finished product. It wasn’t until he compared that they figured it out. The scientists finished soon after the dentists left.

oxpond

The wrestlers got to the next task first and were shocked they were the first team. That was the first time it had ever happened for them this race. It was a task that a previous team had done where we got to laugh while watching an old clip of that race yelling, “My ox is broken!” when it would just go in the wrong direction. Hilarity! The teams would have to use a water ox and trudge through the rice fields in search of their clue. They had four ponds to choose from. They were all different sizes. The advantage of the early teams was picking the smallest pond. The wrestlers didn’t pay attention to the size difference so they picked the biggest one since it was closest to them. They didn’t realize how big their pond was until the surfers showed up and picked a much smaller one.

While the other teams seemed to be going up and down the length of their ponds, the wrestlers were going diagonal and all over the place with no system at all. Their ox also seemed to stop and poop more. All the teams seemed to be in the ponds with one directing the ox and the other going behind looking for a clue from what the ox drug up, except for Maya who was just standing on the side. Not being much help there, Maya!

The dentist found the clue first. Actually, Mrs. Dentist found it, which I’m glad since she wasn’t doing a lot else this episode. They were still getting out of their pond when Maya finally got into theirs and found the clue with Derpy. It was a clue to the pit stop, which was in walking distance from where they were. They had to find Phil who was just down the road a bit. The dentists got there first and won a trip to Vietnam. The surfers and wrestlers found their clues at the same time. They both raced over to Phil. The surfers got there just before them so the wrestlers were in last place. It was a non-elimination race so they will move on to the second to last leg. Only two more episodes from last season for me to get through!
