Paparazzi Become Repulsive

bigdonation

The episode starts off with teams learning at the pit stop that the leg isn’t finished. Before they take off racing again, Phil asked them if they wanted to donate money to charity. All the teams gave all the cash they had on them. The Paparazzi were the only team that did not, at first. The guy made a big deal about giving them $20 and how it would make a big difference to them. Phil called them on it and asked if that was all they had on them. When they admitted they had more, he told them all the other teams gave all they had so he guilted them into giving it away, even though while he was doing it, he said, “I guess we don’t need it,” as if he wasn’t completely sure. Weasels! The race wouldn’t leave them without any money for the next leg, so they had nothing to lose by giving it away. The show wants the teams to give it away!

Later on, when they made a stupid decision at the road block by reading the clue and not realizing the road block was right there, and instead jumped in a taxi and tried to drive to an imaginary place, they spent the rest of the leg arguing with each other and rehashing their stupid decision. We already disliked the team before the episode started, but by the end, Steve was saying, “These are two of the most repulsive people ever. He is such a dipshit. I hate him so much. I want to punch punch punch.” Continue reading on to see what else Amy, Steve and I thought about the Paparazzi and other teams on this leg.

We watched this episode back-to-back with the last Africa episode, but since my own vacation got in the way, I was not able to recap right after I did the other one. Since we did watch two episodes in a row and it was a continuation leg from that episode to this one, it worked out perfectly. Amy asked if we should keep the same teams as going home since it was a continuation leg, but she wanted to switch to the Track Stars since they did not seem to be paying attention. I stuck with the Cheerleaders. Steve kept his same team, but I don’t remember what it was at this point so no one will know.

Express Pass Goes to…

The beginning of the episode began with Texas needing to make a decision on which team to give the Express Pass. They had promised it to the team that U-Turned the Green Team, but they couldn’t wait to find out because the leg was continuing immediately. They had to choose now so they chose the Southern Team because they did not see them as a threat. Then the Southern Team thought the Texas team did it because they were nice. Amy said, “It’s sad that the Southern Team is saying Texas is nice. It’s like they are so dorky, they don’t even know when people are mean.”

Then after everyone checked in except for the Cheerleaders, who didn’t know they were in last place at that point, they decided to U-Turn the Green Team because they made a promise, even though they did just watch the Track Stars not U-Turn the Green Team even though they said they would too. I said, “Oh Cheerleaders, how do you think that teams are behind you, especially the Green Team? I would think you were wasting a chance to U-Turn anyone in the future, but then you are always in the back of the pack, so it is probably not wasted in this case.” Amy said, “They are the last to get the news that everyone is way past that crazy plan.”

Swinging Rope

Teams stayed in Africa and the first task was a Road Block that was used during the very first season of Amazing Race where one team member has to swing on a rope across a zip line canyon. We commented about how no one wore a helmet for the task. There wasn’t much concern over safety it seems. It was also pretty funny how no one had a choice about jumping or stepping off the edge of the cliff. There was a helpful guy to shove off each team member.

All teams realized the road block was where the clue was located except Chac Attack and Paparazzi. I would most likely blame Chac Attack for running to their cab first and Paparazzi following suit, assuming what they were doing was correct. While Chac Attack was trying to tell their cab driver where to go, he was getting confused and grabbed their clue to read it. Amy said, “He’s like, just give me the damn clue.” The Paparazzi driver was telling them that the swing and the Lookout Cafe (where they picked up the clue) was the same spot. They weren’t understanding and told him to keep following the other cab. So dumb. Steve said, “Wow (for teams being so dumb) and is that a warthog in the road?”

warthog

In the process of Chac Attack and Paparazzi making their dumb moves, that allowed the Track Stars and Cheerleaders to move ahead of them since they both did the road block before they realized they had left the road block area. When they realized their mistakes and how two teams were ahead of them, Chac Attack said, “Oops,” kissed each other and moved on. Paparazzi proceeded to talk about their stupid mistake and saying over and over again how they made a bad decision. They weren’t blaming each other, but both blaming themselves for their mistake and would not stop talking about it. The guy kept saying they were done since they were currently in last place. Amy said, “Arguing is a great plan. Also giving up.” Steve said, “Let’s explain it to each other a few more times.”

The entire time the wife of Chac Attack jumped, the husband said “OMG! OMG!” which made Steve say “OMG” after each time Chac Attack said it. He also threw in a “#OMG” once.

Feeding Crocs or Canoes

After the road block, it was a detour task between feeding crocs or canoes. In feeding crocs, teams wore wetsuits and scuba gear while they got into an underwater cage and through the bars, fed one of three crocodiles that were floating in the tank. It required no skill, but looked like fun. In canoes, the team had to canoe across a pretty wide river and then one team member had to hoist the other team member up into a tree with a pulley and they had to retrieve their next clue (shown covered in bird poop) from a vulture’s nest. I said I would choose the non-poop task.

Horrible Paddling

The Green Team and Texas chose the canoe task. Justin from the Green Team said they were a little concerned about crocodiles and hippos being in the river with them. Amy and I didn’t think it seemed super safe, but no one was eaten. They just focused on the task at hand and were really good about paddling in tandem.

Texas, on the other hand, were horrible at paddling together. They chose the task because they thought they could power through it and make up some time, but they did not gain anything on the Green Team. I said, “Texas has so much hatred, they can’t even canoe right.” When Texas put their canoe in the water, they were just behind the Green Team. Due to their horrible job of working together, they ended up separated even more from the team that was driving them crazy.

Once the Green Team and Texas were on the island, it didn’t seem to take long to get one team member hoisted up to the vulture nest to get the poop-encrusted clue. Then they were both back in the water to paddle back, which was smooth for Green Team and made Texas bicker with each other as they kept hitting their paddles into each other because they were still not paddling together.

Croc Snack

The Reporters were the first team to get to the croc detour. While they were about to get in the cage, the Southern Team showed up and used the Express Pass. The Reporters looked a little dismayed they didn’t get it, but they said they were glad that they knew no other teams had the Express Pass now. Amy and I both thought the snack they gave the crocodile did not seem very big. Maybe so it could have a lot of snacks from different teams.

The Track Stars and Cheerleaders both chose the crocodiles. The Cheerleaders were waiting for the Track Stars to finish up when Chac Attack and Paparazzi arrived. The guy paparazzi immediately got riled up at all the teams being there and wanted to switch. He said this the entire time he was changing into a wet suit. Then he said it again while they were in line and suddenly said they should stay there since they were already there. Amy said, “This guy is a nut. He changes his mind mid-sentence. I don’t see them doing well in the canoe.” I said, “They are going to fall out of the canoe.” He somehow managed to convince girl paparazzi to change her mind so they were changing clothes back to leave when he asked if he was being stupid. Then they put the wet suit back on. My god!

Lion Encounter

Two teams were able to go at a time with the lions. They were walking with them, but on different paths. Each time a team became excited about seeing a skull that was in a bush or tree holding their clue, Steve would get very worried about them making loud noises since they were not supposed to make any.

The Green Team arrived first. The Southern Team was right behind them because they used the Express Pass. Texas didn’t see this since the Southern Team was already walking by the time Texas arrived. They did see the Reporters arrive just ahead of them and were dismayed that they were now neck and neck with the Reporters. The croc task did seem like the easiest task to me and I guess it was faster. When they were told they had to wait for two other teams to come back before they could walk, Texas looked even more frustrated.

The Track Stars came up to the fork in the road that said Lion Encounter one way and the Lodge the other so they ended up at the lodge. The ladies put fruit bowls on their heads and they were almost to Phil when they realized they were at the pit stop and had to actually read their clue. They asked the Reporters and Texas if it was the lion encounter since they had just shown up. There were no lions around so they went and finally found it. They did the lion encounter with the Cheerleaders so they didn’t waste too much time until they went through the entire encounter and didn’t get the clue! They asked for a clue from the guy after the walk and he said they were supposed to grab it while on the walk so they had to wait for the other two teams to finish and they could go again. Then they went to actually read the additional route information for the first time. At this point, we were cheering for the paparazzi to be in last place, but it looked like it would be the Track Stars.

Fruit Bowls

Just to make everyone crazy after the slow-walking lion encounter, teams were right next to the pit stop, but to get to Phil, they had to carry fruit bowls on their head. Of course, no one was good at that, so teams were dropping fruit all over the place. Even though the Green Team arrived to the area first, the Southern team managed to be better at carrying fruit and actually came in first place. I know they had an Express Pass, but I was still impressed. They both won a trip to Slovakia.

When the Green Team came in second place, Justin looked like a sore loser that was about to cry. He said they were in first all day and couldn’t come in first at the mat because they couldn’t balance fruit. I said, he couldn’t. She was actually pretty decent at it. He dropped it many times. Texas ended up in third place since they were better at fruit bowls than the Reporters. The Cheerleaders were in fifth place. The Paparazzi were thrilled they weren’t in last place but of course argued about the fruit on their head. They both kept yelling at each other to not talk to the other one. Somehow the  Paparazzi arrived to Phil before Chac Attack, but they all got there before the Track Stars. I said that I would have much rather the Paparazzi be gone, but the Track Stars did not know how to read. They were eliminated.
