About

velveetahead @ 5:40 pm

I grew up in Glendale, Arizona, but I moved after graduating college since it was getting hotter and hotter in Arizona each year. The summer months were turning from 3-4 months long when I was a kid to six months long when I was in high school and 9 months long when I was in college. I blame global warming and the amount of concrete and strip malls that invaded the Phoenix area. There is no culture there. It is one chain restaurant or store after another. When I go back to visit friends and family, I need to leave after three to four days because the city starts to make me crazy. I wouldn’t even go back if it wasn’t for friends and family that live there.

I wanted to live up in the Pacific Northwest for the longest time since it was rainy and green. I probably would have ended up in Seattle if I hadn’t met Jeremy. He grew up in Portland so this is where I moved after graduating. I love it. There is a lot of personality to the city. There is the high-tech geeks, the crunchy hippies, indie hipster kids, and just plain freaks. I like the mix of weirdness here and while there are some chain stores, there are tons of independent retailers and restaurants, and the people of the city love to support local businesses.

I like hanging with friends in a dive bar where we can talk or going out dancing to a good mix of 80s to current alternative music. I love going to concerts. I’ve been to close to 200. I love to read, but don’t spend enough time doing it. The weirder and more twisted the book is, the more likely I will be reading it. I enjoy going to the movies, but it is so damn expensive that I pick and choose when I used to see tons of movies in the past. Netflix is my friend for seeing movies now. I usually am drawn to the indies, but also love the big budget movies too. I’m very obsessed with television. Tons of it could be viewed as an idiot box, but some of the stuff is better than the movies out today. I love the really good shows along with some really trashy stuff.
