True Blood

True Blood

Channel: HBO
Date/Time: Sunday, 9/8c
Starring: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Nelson Ellis
Trailer

Synopsis: Scientists have found a blood synthetic that vampires can use so humans are safe and vampires can live out in the open. Not everyone buys that they won’t be attacked though, especially religious folks. A waitress, who has her own special gift of hearing everyone’s thoughts, is thrilled by a vampire that comes into her diner since his thoughts are actually closed off to her. She finds his mysteriousness sexy.

True Blood lives up to the pay channel it airs with an abundance of sex, but not a lot of blood. There is a lot of lust in the air though. I think the best scene was where Sookie, the mind reading waitress, talks with the new vampire in town, Bill, for the second time in her diner. Everyone in the entire diner is staring at them talking since not many of them are keen on a vampire in the restaurant. They don’t really notice since they are so intent on each other. She is thrilled that she can’t hear his thoughts and he looks like he is ready to devour her. The sexual tension is palpable.  I loved it!

Comic Con: Lost & Pushing Daisies

Category: Adventures, Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 12:31 pm

I forgot that I hadn’t written about the EW TV Panel that we attended on Thursday. It was full when we arrived so we got in line for the WOW panel afterwards. They let people in as they figured out there were still seats so we got in to listen to a good portion of it. We were way in the back so I just listened and didn’t take any pictures of the panel. That’s why I forgot I listened to it. The panel had the creator of The O.C., Gossip Girl, and Chuck, the creators of Lost, the creator of Pushing Daisies, and the creator of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Comic Con: Stargate SG1

Brad Wright (executive producer and co-creator) arrived on stage to introduce Stargate Continuum, the latest Stargate movie. The rest of the cast was subject to availability so we didn’t know who would arrive. We were thrilled when everyone that was scheduled was there, including Richard Dean Anderson. It was his first convention, so we got an extra special treat with him there. Everyone was introduced one by one with long introductions about how handsome or pretty they were along with how talented. Everyone got that intro except for Christopher Judge. He was just announced quickly by his name. He came out and gave himself a big hug (seen below) and then he smacked everyone’s butt before sitting down. That’s what he is doing to Beau Bridges above.

Comic Con: Dexter

Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, the executive producer and head writer were present at the Dexter panel. It was a bit more subdued compared to the Torchwood panel. It was moderated by Kristin from E! Online. There was a trailer for the third season of Dexter shown, which hasn’t been shown anywhere else yet. It showed that Jimmy Smits is joining the cast and might become an actual friend to Dexter.

Comic Con: Torchwood

Category: Adventures, Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 8:14 am

Torchwood’s panel was the sexiest panel of the day yesterday. There was a bunch of clips shown from the show including the many kisses between Capt. Jack and other people. There were tons of cheers for his kiss with Spike, er Capt. John. More cheers for the kiss with Ianto. There was tons of innuendo from the panelists the entire time. It was a good time. It did get a little sad when they showed a clip about Owen and Tosh dying. It actually made John Barrowman and Naoko Mori tear up to watch the scene again. People asked that Tosh be brought back in some way and there were many cheers. They said they would be sad to be losing her on the series.

Comic Con: Doctor Who

Category: Adventures, Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 11:40 pm

Doctor Who panel didn’t have Russell T Davies. They said he was cellophaned to his chair writing the next season of Torchwood. We did get the executive producer Julie Gardner and head writer and new show runner Steven Moffet. Steven Moffet said he was working on the first episode of the fifth season, but he said he did have some time to finish it. That was a reference to the fifth season not premiering until 2010. That is due to David Tennant doing some stagework through most of 2009. There will be four specials next year. There will also be the Christmas special this December. They showed a longer trailer for the audience than what they showed on television.

Comic Con: Fringe Preview

Category: Adventures, Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 8:34 pm

fringe7.jpg

For the first time, Comic Con offered something else on preview night besides opening up the exhibit hall early. It showed the pilot of the new FOX  series from JJ Abrams and his old Alias team.  The show is about an FBI agent who investigates a very bizarre terrorism event that causes everyone on a plane to have their flesh to fall off. One of her fellow agents gets infected with some form of the same chemicals as the plane people and ends up with translucent skin. She finds a professor that used to do research on all this kind of craziness, but there is a problem. He’s been in a mental institution for 17 years. oops! She needs to convince his son to grant her access to talk to him and get his help.

Canterbury’s Law

Category: Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 6:27 pm

Canterbury’s Law
Channel: FOX
Time: Friday, 9/8c
Starring: Julianna Margulies, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Ben Shenkman, Keith Robinson, Aidan Quinn

Synopsis: Denis Leary is one of the executive producers of this drama about a strong, rebellious female defense attorney.

I wasn’t too sure of the show after the first episode. It seemed to be trying too hard. I liked it a lot better after the second episode as the actors settled into their characters a little more. I really like Julianna Margulies. She came across as super aggressive the entire first episode and only showed a softer side at the very end. The second episode she was a little more well-rounded throughout the entire episode. She is obsessed with her work and haunted by her son being kidnapped three years ago. It is ruining her marriage, but she is trying to hold it all together. She just isn’t doing it very well.

I’d like to see more of it, but it just got bumped off of Monday nights to Friday nights. It hasn’t been canceled, but I’m not sure how long it will last on Friday nights. It is a death spot. That’s too bad since I think this show does have potential that it just started to show after two episodes.

New Amsterdam

Category: Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 5:28 pm

New Amsterdam
Channel: FOX
Time: Monday, 9/8c
Starring: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Zuleikha Robinson, Stephen Henderson, Alexi Gilmore

Synopsis: A guy has an immortal curse put on him that will not end until he finds his one true love. He bides his time as a homicide detective.

This show reminds me of Highlander except it isn’t as exciting. I enjoy the glimpses into his background and the various lives he led before. Trying to introduce himself to who he thinks might be his one true love is interesting. When he’s at his current job as a homicide detective, it is boring. The stories are simple and wrapped up easily so that half of the episode can be devoted to those back stories. I wish his job wasn’t given so much presence or he had another job where it can weave in and out of the stories, but not be half the episode. When he is on cases, it usually reminds him of something in his past, but other things can remind him since the cases haven’t been overly exciting.

I would not call this appointment television, but something to have on while you are doing something else.

Unhitched

Category: Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 5:20 pm

Unhitched
Channel: FOX
Day/Time: Sunday, 9:30/8:30c
Starring: Craig Bierko, Rashida Jones, Johnny Sneed, Shaun Majumder

Synopsis: Four recently single friends enter the dating scene again in their thirties.

After two episodes, I haven’t laughed once. Everything is juvenile and I don’t see how any of these people are friends. Rashida Jones should be on a better show. I’m giving up on it!
