ABC New Fall Shows

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 10:07 pm

I’ll continue to recap shows the week they premiere, but I thought I should still focus on the new shows that will be premiering this upcoming fall season so you can figure out if you want to add any new shows to your viewing repertoire.

ABC New Fall Shows

Life on Mars
Channel: ABC
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: Thu, Oct 9
Starring: Jason O’Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Jonathan Murphy, Lisa Bonet
Trailer

Synopsis: Remake of a BBC show where after a car accident, a cop wakes up in 1973. Is he in a coma dreaming it all or did he actually go back in time? He’s trying to figure out how to get back while clashing with the politically incorrect cops of the ’70s.

My Take: I’ve watched the BBC show, which was good. I’m not sure what I think about it taking place in New York City now, but the actors look interesting so I’m willing to give it a shot.

TV: Week of Jan 27

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 8:21 pm

Lost is back! They were holding off until now so they could show the entire season in one fell swoop. Then the writer strike’s happened. We only get a few episodes of this season, but after last season’s finale, they should be good ones!

Recommended Shows

Lost
Channel: ABC
Time: 8/7c
Premieres: Thu, Jan 31
Starring: Daniel Dae Kim, Elizabeth Mitchell, Emilie de Ravin, Evengeline Lilly, Henry Ian Cusick, Jorge Garcia, Josh Holloway, Matthew Fox, Michael Emerson, Naveen Andrews, Terry O’Quinn, Yunjin Kim
Trailer

Synopsis: The Others try to ambush the Oceanic crash survivors to kidnap the pregnant women, but Juliet has warned them so they attack the Others first. Charlie goes into the underwater Looking Glass station to flip the switch that is jamming the radio transmission so Jack can call the nearby ship from Naomi’s satellite phone. One of the Others tries to stop Charlie, but he manages to flip the switch before dying. Also, just before dying, he gets Desmond’s girlfriend Penny broadcasting to them and saying she didn’t send the boat like Naomi had claimed. He gets that message to Desmond just before dying. Locke shoots Naomi saying he doesn’t want to leave the island and takes off after Jack calls for help, but who are the people that are coming to help? Then there is the flash-forward that shows Jack and Kate off the island, but Jack saying it was mistake that they ever left. What happened? Who knows!

My Take: Even though some episodes lagged a bit, I always had faith in the show and I was pleasantly surprised at the season finale last year. I can’t wait for more! Now that the producers know when the show will end, I think there will be a lot more focus in each episode.

Cashmere Mafia

Category: Shows, TVvelveetahead @ 4:57 pm

Cashmere Mafia
Channel: ABC
Time: 10/9c
Airs: Wednesday @10pm
Trailer

Synopsis: One of two similar shows from Sex and the City people. This one comes from producer Darren Star about four career-driven, intelligent women that deal with their marriages, kids, work and everything else in their lives by discussing it together.

This isn’t the most horrible show in the world, and it has some potential, but it has some outdated ideas and story lines that I have already seen years ago on other shows, including Sex and the City. I would think if it was someone else, they could possibly get away from stealing ideas from that show, but Darren Star was the producer so it is pretty tacky to have a story line about a supposed straight girl thinking she might be lesbian and just giving it a shot. It was so much funnier with Samantha in Sex and the City. Also, that show didn’t have the cringe-inducing “Natural Woman” playing when the lady kisses the other woman for the first time. Ick for bad, cheesy music choices!

TV: Week of Dec 16

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 6:33 pm

Look at what the writer’s strike hath wrought. New stupid reality shows! Let’s hope they die soon so the producers actually give the writer’s a deal that is workable and not so cheap.

New Shows

Duel
Channel: ABC
Time: 8/7c
Premiered: Monday, Dec 17
Trailer

Synopsis: It is a trivia game mixed with roulette involving gambling chips where players place chips on one or more answers. Chips on wrong answers get added to the jackpot. Players can also duel each other and the winner gets all the chips. Each night players are eliminated and final winner is picked at the end of the week on Sunday, December 23rd.

My Take: Glad it is only on for a week, except if it becomes successful, I’m sure they will turn it into another Who Wants to be a Millionaire or Deal or No Deal. While I think it sounds lame, I’m sure the general public will eat it up.

Clash of the Choirs
Channel: NBC
Time: 8/7c
Premiered: Monday, Dec 17
Trailer

Synopsis: Michael Bolton, Patti LaBelle, Nick Lachey, Kelly Rowland and Blake Shelton each have their own choir in different towns that will compete against each other over four nights. Viewers decide the overall winning group.

My Take: Many shows have tried to capture American Idol’s winning strategy, but not many have succeeded. I believe this will be another failure.

TV: Weeks Of 11-24

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 1:01 pm

Returning Shows

Project Runway
Channel: Bravo
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: November 14
Trailer

This Season: They are starting off the new season by letting the designers make whatever they want instead of the first, usual challenge of making something out of trash.

My Take: Even though the show wins raves from critics, I’m just not that into fashion design to watch it.

October Road
Channel: ABC
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: November 22
Trailer

Last Season: An author wrote a book based on characters of his hometown, and when he returns home after 10 years, it isn’t the most welcoming greeting, including the girl he left behind.

This Season: Hannah realizes her feelings for Nick and finally comes clean about her kid. Kevin Weisman will be playing a professor at the same school Nick teaches.

My Take: I couldn’t make it through the entire pilot episode last season. It was so horrible. I have no idea why it is coming back.

DH: Tinkling Fountain

Category: Recaps, TVvelveetahead @ 8:39 pm

Desperate Housewives
Art Isn’t Easy

This episode brought out my hatred of home owner associations and trying to make everyone the same. That is why I loved The X-Files episode where Mulder and Scully played a married couple in a super strict neighborhood and he would drive people crazy by putting out pink lawn flamingoes. I miss that show, but back to this one! I was all on Lynette and crazy sculpture guys’ side with putting whatever stupid thing they want in their yards. I had to remind myself that they really don’t have anything better to do on the street when they were outside gawking at it 15 minutes after they had assembled it. I thought it was ugly and noisy too, but I’d just ignore it if I lived there. Or maybe I would point and laugh.

TV News

Men in Trees
Starting this Friday, Men in Trees will be moving to 8/7c and 20/20 will be moving in its old spot at 10/9c.

Returning Shows

Nip/Tuck
Channel: FX
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: October 30
Cast: Dylan Walsh, Julian McMahon, Joely Richardson, John Hensley, Kelly Carlson, Roma Maffia
Trailer

Last Season: Julia and Sean divorced so he decides to move to L.A. to start over. Christian follows him there.

This Season: They become the little fish in the big sea after being the big kids in Miami. Christian and Sean become consultants on a TV medical drama with Oliver Pratt as the producer and Bradley Cooper as one of the actors. Kimber and Matt follow behind them with their kid in tow. Julia shows up with her new lesbian lover.

My Take: I still haven’t made it through last season since I was getting bored. It turns out that Matt Roush from TV Guide agreed with me on last season, but likes where it is going this season in Hollywood. He says that it lightens the dampering mood over the past couple of seasons and brings the show back to its freaky fun time. That is enough reason for me to give it another shot.

ABC Likes Shows + Moonlight Good News

Category: News, TVvelveetahead @ 9:29 pm

ABC has given Pushing Daisies a full season order (yeah!), while also ordering three more scripts for Carpoolers (yuck!) and six more episodes of Samantha Who? Pushing Daises has won its timeslot in adults 18-49 since it premiered. Carpoolers has kept or built on its lead in from Cavemen, which thankfully has not been asked for additional scripts, but unfortunately has not been canceled either. Samantha Who? had the most watched new series debut and kept most of its audience in its second week.

Over at CBS, four additional scripts have been ordered for Moonlight, which has moved ahead of Women’s Murder Club in that very much wanted adults 18-49 demographic.  I find the show goofy, but it is entertaining enough to watch on the computer while I’m half paying attention, doing something else.
