TV: Week of October 12

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 6:25 pm

The last of the season premieres is coming to a close. There are only two more shows to premiere this month after what is premiering this week.

Pick of the Week

My Own Worst Enemy
Channel: NBC
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: Monday, October 13
Starring: Christian Slater, Alfre Woodard, Mike O’Malley, Saffron Burrows, Madchen Amick, Bella Thorne, Taylor Lautner
Trailer

Synopsis: Henry is a consultant by day and a spy at night (as Edward). Edward knows about Henry, but Henry is starting to realize that what’s going on with Edward is more than just crazy spy dreams.

My Take: I like the premise and I’m willing to check out Christian Slater in a television show, even though he hasn’t made a good movie since True Romance.

NBC New Fall Shows

Category: TV, Upcomingvelveetahead @ 6:05 pm

I’ll continue to recap shows the week they premiere, but I thought I should still focus on the new shows that will be premiering this upcoming fall season so you can figure out if you want to add any new shows to your viewing repertoire.

NBC New Fall Shows

My Own Worst Enemy
Channel: NBC
Time: 10/9c
Premieres: Mon, Oct 13
Starring: Christian Slater, Alfre Woodard, Mike O’Malley
Trailer

Synopsis: Henry is a normal, suburban dad, but he is also Edward, who is a highly specialized spy. His two personalities are starting to become aware of the other one.

My Take: Is it Jekyll/Hyde or Total Recall or something else altogether? I’m intriguied enough to tune in. It would be nice for Christian Slater to be good in something again.

NBC Fall Schedule

Category: News, TVvelveetahead @ 10:03 am

NBC actually announced its upcoming schedule six weeks ago since they decided to be weird and avoid the upfronts where all the media shows up, even though I think they were at the upfronts yesterday so I guess they had two presentations? I don’t know.

Anyway, here are the officially canceled shows: 1 vs 100, Amnesia, Bionic Woman, Clash of the Choirs, Journeyman, Las Vegas, My Dad is Better Than Your Dad, Phenomenon, Quarterlife,  and The Singing Bee.

MWG: Heathers

Category: 1980s, Movie Watching Group, Movies, Reviewsvelveetahead @ 5:21 pm

Stacy has joined the Movie Watching Group so she picked the May movie. She was a big fan of Christian Slater in the ’80s. She was going to go with Gleaming the Cube, but that was not available to rent on DVD so she went with Heathers. I think that is a much better choice. Watch and review!

Heathers

Netflix synopsis: At Westburg High, you’re either a Heather or a nobody. And while Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) may not be named Heather, she’s a Heather in spirit, waging battles in the full-scale popularity war. But just when it all gets to be too much, she meets mysterious newcomer Jason (Christian Slater), who offers her the perfect — albeit deadly — solution to end the Heathers’ social tyranny. Teen angst has rarely been this darkly funny or poignant.

Rotten Tomato Score: 94%
