Robert Pattinson tries to move onto a more adult role after the Twilight movies, but seems miscast in Water for Elephants. Tyler Perry has made another movie that should be an embarrassment for anyone. Why does he keep making these horrible comedies? In the limited releases, it is interesting that someone made a vampire movie that is more like a zombie movie than viewing the vampires as romantic leading men. It probably would have been a bigger splash if it came out in the late 1980s when there were other similar vampire movies out.

Nationwide Releases

 Water for Elephants
Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family
 African Cats

Synopsis: Sometime in the thirties, a love triangle takes place in a circus.

 RT Score: 61%
RT Consensus: It’s a tale tastefully told and beautifully filmed, but Water for Elephants suffers from a pronounced lack of chemistry between its leads.

Movies Opening January 14

You knew the buzz around the Green Hornet had to be bad when they moved the release date to the death month of January and it turns out that the reviews hold up to the bad buzz. As for The Dilemma, I can’t remember where I read it, but someone mentioned that Vince Vaughn looks very much like Kevin James, which is quite true and disturbing.

Nationwide Releases

The Green Hornet
The Dilemma

The Green Hornet
Directed: Michel Gondry
Starring: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour, Tom Wilkinson
Trailer

Synopsis:   After goofing off on his dad’s money most of his life, a wealthy man decides to fight crime after his father is murdered.

My Take:   It doesn’t seem super original with all the other superhero movies that have been made, but it still looks like a lot of fun.

RT Score: 45%
RT Consensus: It’s sporadically entertaining, but The Green Hornet never approaches the surreal heights suggested by a Michel Gondry/Seth Rogen collaboration.
