Movies Opening November 12

Category: 2010,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 10:50 pm

Out of the two Certified Fresh movies, Unstoppable looks like a fun time. The other one looks like an indie movie that is too indie for its own good.

Nationwide Releases

Unstoppable
Morning Glory
Skyline

Unstoppable
Directed: Tony Scott
Starring: Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson
Trailer

Synopsis: An unmanned out-of-control train carrying chemicals can only be stopped by Denzel Washington.

My Take: Remember when all movies were Speed but with a <fill in the blank>. Well, this looks like Speed but with a train.

RT Score: 86%
RT Consensus: As fast, loud, and relentless as the train at the center of the story,Unstoppable is perfect popcorn entertainment — and director Tony Scott’s best movie in years.

TV: Week of November 30

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:28 pm

On Tuesday, there is the Presidential Address and Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Quite a combo! This Friday will have the winter finale of Stargate Universe and White Collar. Those will be back early next year though. This week will also have the series finale of Monk and Robin Hood.

Season Finales: The Hills, The City, Sons of Anarchy, Monk, Robin Hood, Amazing Race

Pick of the Week

scrubs

Scrubs
Channel: ABC
Time: 9/8c
Starring: Zach Braff, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Eliza Coupe, Kerry Bishe, Dave Franco
Premieres: Tuesday, December 1
Trailer

Synopsis: The series ended last season and then it was renewed. It will be back, but different. J.D. is only set to be around for six episodes while he fades out and the show focuses more on Turk and Cox running a teaching hospital.

My Take: I really think they should have changed the name since it seems like it’ll be a different show, but I like the cast and creator Bill Lawrence, so I’ll give it a shot.

Movies Opening May 8

Category: 2009 Movies,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 6:12 pm

Who thought doing a reboot of Star Trek would be such a good idea? I thought it’d might good when J.J. Abrams was attached so I’m glad it has turned out so awesome. I think the stoner comedy Next Day Air was a wasted opportunity of a good comedy.  The limited releases involve a family mystery, closeted gay Republicans, Mexican soccer-playing brothers, an alcoholic kidnapper and a biopic about Salvador Dali.

Star Trek
Directed: J.J. Abrams
Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg

Synopsis: How the original crew of the Star Trek got together.

My Take: I love J.J. Abrams, Zachary Quinto looks so much like Spock, Chris Pine is very good looking and I find Simon Pegg hilarious. I want to see it.

9x9_fresh RT Score: 96%
RT Consensus: Star Trek reignites a classic franchise with action, humor, a strong story, and brilliant visuals, and will please traditional Trekkies and new fans alike.

TV: Week of January 4

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 9:35 pm

January used to be a dead month for new shows. It used to just be reruns, but now filled with midseason replacements and reality shows.

Season Finales: Lipstick Jungle, Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary, Crash

Pick of the Week

scrubs

Scrubs
Channel: ABC
Time: 9/8c
Starring: Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, Neil Flynn
Premieres: Tuesday, January 6
Trailer

Synopsis: The show moves to ABC where it gets to finish out its final season properly. In the final season, J.D. and Elliot might get back together again, Dr. Kelso has retired as the Chief of Medicine, but he still hangs around since he gets free muffins for life from the coffee shop, and Courtney Cox guest stars for a few episodes as the new Chief of Medicine.

My Take: The show is hilarious and it was given the shaft at NBC so I’m glad it gets to finish off its final season properly.
