TV: Week of January 15

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 12:28 pm

Pick of the Week

What I love about this show is how everyone talks like they are in a Coen Brothers movie, like Raising Arizona or No Country for Old Men. Characters use big, fancy words while talking about coal mining and shooting their husbands/wives. It’s hilarious. As an added bonus, Timothy Olyphant is damn sexy. In the third season, Raylan is dealing with his ex-wife being pregnant with his child while dealing with Boyd Crowder going back to his bad ways. There are two new baddies this season and they both came from Boomtown: Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson.

FOX 2011 Fall Schedule

Category: Fall TV,TVvelveetahead @ 8:05 pm

FOX had quite a few shows that were on the bubble at the end of the season. Then in May, FOX canceled all of them in one fell swoop. Low-rated midseason shows were gone like The Chicago Code, The Good Guys Breaking In and Traffic Light. There is a slight bit of hope for Breaking In. After its cancellation was announced, it had the best ratings of its run and better ratings than a show that did get renewed, Raising Hope. Just recently, FOX did say they may decide to pick it back up for a midseason replacement, but they won’t decide that until later this fall.

TV: Week of January 31

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 9:26 pm

There’s this little show that you might have heard about that is premiering this week: Lost. It’s the final season. Will we find out the answers? I don’t even care anymore. I just like the craziness of it all. Also this week,  in order to avoid getting killed by the Winter Olympics, Bones and Fringe will be going on hiatus. They’ll come back after the Olympics are over.

Pick of the Week

Lost
Channel: ABC
Time: 8/7c
Starring: Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Michael Emerson, Terry O’Quinn, Emilie de Ravin, Henry Ian Cusick, Jeff Fahey, Jorge Garcia, Zuleikha Robinson, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Leung, Nestor Carbonell, Naveen Andrews, Yunjin Kim
Premieres: Tuesday, February 2
Trailer

Synopsis: Did Juliet really die? Did she reset the crazy time thing? Who the hell is Locke now? What is the smoke monster?

My Take: I am completely ready for head explody!

TV: Week of January 18

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:24 pm

This week, it is major premiere time for cable series, especially tonight. The only exception is Wednesday when Lost finally returns and FOX has its premiere of the Tim Roth show Lie to Me.  On Tuesday, it is pretty much Barack Obama inauguration. Every network station will be televising it except FOX and CW, which are instead showing new episodes of their usual night of shows. On Friday, on SCI-FI network, there will be the cable run of old canceled shows Invasion and Moonlight in case you never watched, but wanted to check them out.

Season Finale: Momma’s Boys

Synopsis: All of those that got off the island, now want to get back on it to save those that they left behind, but the island apparently disappeared soon after they were rescued.

My Take: The show vastly improved since they decided on a final end date. I can’t wait for each new episode.

Favorite 2008 TV

Category: TVvelveetahead @ 3:06 pm

I planned on making a top 10 list, but I just can’t seem to pick just 10 shows. There were some shows that I have picked on my best of lists before that didn’t make it this time, including CSI and Scrubs. There were only a few Scrubs episodes on in 2008 and they weren’t the best ones I have seen so I decided they didn’t make the list. What I have seen in 2009 on ABC is good though so it is probably going on the list at the end of this year. I have loved CSI in the past, but we didn’t watch the shows as quickly as we have in the past.

That is basically how I came up with my list. The shows that sit around on the TiVo forever don’t make the list. The ones that I can’t find an episode on the TiVo because Jer and I watch them as soon as they are new are obviously ones that we can’t wait to watch. These were all ones that either we both watched immediately or I watched immediately because he couldn’t stand them.  :)

Breaking Bad
Channel: AMC
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt

Walter was a high school chemistry teacher that found out his has inoperable cancer, but didn’t want his family to worry and stare at him with that “Oh you are dying” stare, so he didn’t tell them about his disease. He decided he needed to make some money to leave them when he did die so he decided to make pure crystal meth since it is just basic chemistry and works with a former student in order to sell it with his druggie connections. I thought the show would just be like Weeds, but it wasn’t. It was completely messed up and hilarious. Walter gets himself into jams so many times and parts of it are really scary with the people he is dealing with in the drug world, but the story goes in surprising ways all the time. I cannot wait for it to come back for a second season this year and Bryan Cranston was totally deserving of winning the Emmy for the series last year.
