TV: Week of April 8

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 4:50 pm

There are many shows that are debuting on Easter that seem to be quite scandalous for a religious holiday with Nurse Jackie and The Client List. I guess at least The Borgias has that religious slant to it, but is still something I don’t think they’ll be showing in church any time soon.

Pick of the Week

The Big C returns with Kathy’s tumors shrinking or disappearing altogether, but she had a shock at the end of last season where it appeared her husband had died. The show is a good mix of very black humor mixed in with some real emotions. Parts of it would seem very corny if it wasn’t for Laura Linney.

TV Premieres: Week of March 21

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:33 am

Cable is the place to watch good tv this week between Breaking Bad and the latest seasons of Showtime comedies. Survivors just finished it first season on Saturday nights on BBC America but it is starting second season on Tuesday nights. Maybe more people will stumble across it. The winter season finale of Caprica is this week. Then we’ll have to wait until fall for more new episodes. On Tuesday, there will be a recap of V so everyone can remember what was happening in the first four episodes from months ago before the series comes back next week.

Pick of the Week

Breaking Bad
Channel: AMC
Time: 10/9c
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada, Raymond Cruz, Ted Beneke
Premieres: Sunday, March 21
Trailer

Synopsis: Walt’s wife learns what he has really been doing in his spare time and she’s not going to put up with it while Jesse tries to go clean after his girlfriend died of an overdose that Walt could have prevented.

My Take: It is my favorite show on television currently. It is dark and twisted. It does not take the easy way out. You never know where it is going to lead, except to someplace that is even darker than you imagined.

TV Reviews: Medical Edition

Category: Shows,TVvelveetahead @ 9:23 pm

In the past month, there has been the premiere of three very different medical shows: Royal Pains, Nurse Jackie and HawthoRNe.

Royal Pains

Channel: USA
Time: Thursday, 10/9c

RoyalPains32

A talented doctor at the best hospital in New York decides that a board member is stable enough for a surgeon to handle so he goes to help out an unstable, non-board member patient. That patient survives and board member has a freak turn around during surgery and dies. The talented doctor gets blackballed from practicing medicine. After his fiance has enough of his wallowing in self pity for a month, she leaves him. His brother drags him to the Hamptons for the weekend where one thing leads to another and he becomes the concierge doctor to the very rich and pampered. There is nothing shocking or unpredictable about the pilot except for Campbell Scott’s very bad German accent, but Mark Feuerstein who plays Dr. Hank is very charming. His brother Evan, played by Paulo Costanzo, is adorably dorky. They get a place to live for the summer so they set up shop. It is a perfect match up with Burn Notice and perfect show for summer. I recommend it.
