ABC has thirteen new shows debuting this fall and early next year. Where did it find the room to fit all these shows? By canceling a bunch of low performers like No Ordinary Family, Better With You, Detroit 1-8-7, Mr. Sunshine and Off the Map. A minor surprise was the cancellation of V. It had a rough start its first season, but was a bit more focused when it came back for a second season. I couldn’t get past the almost all of the show taking place against a very bad green screen. I found it so distracting, I didn’t know what was going on.

ABC Fall 2009 Schedule
I did a breakdown on NBC, CBS and FOX back in May. Then I got distracted. I’m finally finishing the list this week! A breakdown on what’s new, gone and changing each night of the week on ABC come Fall 2009:
Monday

ABC is keeping Monday night the same with two hours of Dancing With the Stars followed by midseason hit, Castle. When Dancing finishes, it’ll be replaced with the show that won’t die, The Bachelor.

Fall Season So Far
One of the most successful shows of the fall season so far, is NCIS, which is gaining more viewers in its sixth season. Crime procedurals in general have done well, especially since they were able to air repeats during the writer’s strike and had a few new episodes after it ended. CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds also saw increases in their ratings. One non-procedural show that is doing well was How I Met Your Mother. It gained an audience after Britney Spears guest starred last season (oh she is such a bad actress) and they actually stayed around this season. Two and a Half Men also is doing better this season. After bombarding the airwaves and billboards with promotional pushes, CW finally saw the ratings for Gossip Girl live up to its hype. Its increase in ratings also helped One Tree Hill do better this season too.

Strike Update
The writer’s strike is officially over. Some shows are going back into production for 4-6 episodes to air in April and May (mostly self-contained procedurals like CSI and comedies), while other serialized shows will be relaunched next fall. Over at TV Guide, Michael Ausiello has a chart on all shows, but here are the ones that I care about, plus a few that I know you guys like too.
