Category: 2011,Movies,Openingvelveetahead @ 1:21 pm

A whole bunch of movies come out this week, but the only one that looks worth seeing is Bridesmaids. That looks like a laugh out loud comedy while everything else looks like it could be forgotten quickly.

Nationwide Releases

 Priest

Bridesmaids
Directed
: Paul Feig

Synopsis: A mix of women who do not have a lot in common, try to come together for a bachelorette party. It’s the female version of The Hangover.

 RT Score: 90%
RT Consensus: A marriage of genuine characters, gross out gags, and pathos, Bridesmaids is a female-driven comedy that refuses to be boxed in as Kristen Wiig emerges as a real star.

Best TV of 2010

Category: TVvelveetahead @ 8:05 pm

Once again, here are my favorite shows in the past year. I can never pick just 10 so there are more than that. Oh well! There are other shows that I love a lot, but they either didn’t have a stellar year or I don’t watch the shows as quickly as I watched all of these so I figured they aren’t my absolute favorites.

#1

Breaking Bad
Channel: AMC
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt

The reason I love the show is that it goes to really dark, messed up places and somehow gets out of jams or deals with them in unexpected ways. Hank’s wife found out he was making and selling meth. That didn’t go over too well when she kicked him out, even though he refused to leave his own house for a while. Jesse was pissed at Walter. When they fight, it is hilarious. They both don’t want to do anything with one another, until they realize they need each other. Finally, when things get really scary for them both, the season end’s on an awesome cliffhanger.

TV: Week of June 13

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 5:10 pm

Tonight has two great shows on. True Blood premieres its third season with tons of blood, sex, vampires and werewolves get thrown into the mix. Breaking Bad wraps up its third season and it is still my current favorite show on television. After it ends, there will be a sneak preview of AMC’s next new show Rubicon.

Pick of the Week

True Blood
Channel: HBO
Time:
9/8c
Starring:
Anna Panquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley, Kristin Bauer, Nelsan Ellis, Deborah Ann Woll, Chris Bauer, Todd Lowe, Carrie Preston, William Sanderson
Premieres: Sunday, June 13
Trailer

Synopsis: Bill has been kidnapped, Sam is going to find out about his real family, and werewolves show up in town.

My Take: As long as Eric is in as many scenes as possible, I’m happy.

TV: Week of June 8

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 8:15 pm

There are about a million shows debuting tonight and then a couple more trickling in the rest of the week. Kings returns on Saturday nights to burn off the rest of its episodes. Pushing Daisies airs its final episode on Saturday night too.

Pick of the Week

weeds

Weeds
Channel: SHO
Time: 10/9c
Starring: Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Kevin Nealon, Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Allie Grant
Premieres: Monday, June 8
Trailer

Synopsis: After moving close to the Mexico border, Nancy got in bed literally with a Mexican gangster. She ended last season pregnant with his child and Celia was kidnapped by her own daughter.

My Take: It is twisted and hilarious. I also love Mary-Louise Parker.

Favorite 2008 TV

Category: TVvelveetahead @ 3:06 pm

I planned on making a top 10 list, but I just can’t seem to pick just 10 shows. There were some shows that I have picked on my best of lists before that didn’t make it this time, including CSI and Scrubs. There were only a few Scrubs episodes on in 2008 and they weren’t the best ones I have seen so I decided they didn’t make the list. What I have seen in 2009 on ABC is good though so it is probably going on the list at the end of this year. I have loved CSI in the past, but we didn’t watch the shows as quickly as we have in the past.

That is basically how I came up with my list. The shows that sit around on the TiVo forever don’t make the list. The ones that I can’t find an episode on the TiVo because Jer and I watch them as soon as they are new are obviously ones that we can’t wait to watch. These were all ones that either we both watched immediately or I watched immediately because he couldn’t stand them.  :)

Breaking Bad
Channel: AMC
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt

Walter was a high school chemistry teacher that found out his has inoperable cancer, but didn’t want his family to worry and stare at him with that “Oh you are dying” stare, so he didn’t tell them about his disease. He decided he needed to make some money to leave them when he did die so he decided to make pure crystal meth since it is just basic chemistry and works with a former student in order to sell it with his druggie connections. I thought the show would just be like Weeds, but it wasn’t. It was completely messed up and hilarious. Walter gets himself into jams so many times and parts of it are really scary with the people he is dealing with in the drug world, but the story goes in surprising ways all the time. I cannot wait for it to come back for a second season this year and Bryan Cranston was totally deserving of winning the Emmy for the series last year.

True Blood

True Blood

Channel: HBO
Date/Time: Sunday, 9/8c
Starring: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Nelson Ellis
Trailer

Synopsis: Scientists have found a blood synthetic that vampires can use so humans are safe and vampires can live out in the open. Not everyone buys that they won’t be attacked though, especially religious folks. A waitress, who has her own special gift of hearing everyone’s thoughts, is thrilled by a vampire that comes into her diner since his thoughts are actually closed off to her. She finds his mysteriousness sexy.

True Blood lives up to the pay channel it airs with an abundance of sex, but not a lot of blood. There is a lot of lust in the air though. I think the best scene was where Sookie, the mind reading waitress, talks with the new vampire in town, Bill, for the second time in her diner. Everyone in the entire diner is staring at them talking since not many of them are keen on a vampire in the restaurant. They don’t really notice since they are so intent on each other. She is thrilled that she can’t hear his thoughts and he looks like he is ready to devour her. The sexual tension is palpable.  I loved it!

TV: Week of September 7

Category: TV,Upcomingvelveetahead @ 7:18 pm

This week has a lot more good shows debuting compared to last week. There is a lot to recommend and hard to pick one as the pick of the week since I’ve seen Fringe and it is very good, but I’m going with True Blood as the pick since it is produced by Alan Ball and looks like HBO is finally getting back to its classic good shows after a run of pretty lames ones last year.

Pick of the Week

True Blood
Channel: HBO
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: Sunday, Sep 7

My Take: I love Alan Ball. I loved Six Feet Under and I love vampires, so this seems like a natural show for me to watch.
